Sweet : Chapt 26

She lay on the exam table staring at the ceiling. Mark was there by her side as the doctor studied her vagina. He stood, removed his gloves, and walked to the sink to wash his hands, "The bad news is...I won't need to see you next week."

She sat up, "Why not?"

Mark chimed in, "Is everything okay?"

He nodded, "You are dilated. Those pains you were feeling last night and this morning were contractions."

"It's early. I still have three weeks to go. I was planning to have a baby shower this weekend."

He chuckled, "You'll be home in time to attend it. And so will the baby. I'm going to have them send you to labor and delivery."

*****

"I can see the head," the doctor said excitedly. It didn't matter how many babies he delivered, seeing the head crown was pure joy, "push a little more."

She grunted and pushed. Then she heard the baby wail. "It's a fine young baby boy. Look at all that hair. Mark hurried to see the baby. He studied him. He was still too young and swollen to tell whose baby he was. But he was in love with the child."

He held him, "You're finally here," he whispered to the bundled child.

Kendra still felt pain. The nurse was concerned. She felt around, "You're never going to believe this," she said.

"What?" They asked.

"I think there's another child."

They scrambled and did an unltrasound, "There is. How did we miss this?"

The doctor went back down and delivered the second child, "It's another boy."

Mark looked at the child. His skin was fair. He had dark wavy hair. He smiled.

Charlene held her baby girl with a bottle to her mouth. Chloe was six seeks and counting. A beautiful chocolate baby girl. Coen sat next to her on the sofa, "She is so precious."

Corrine walked into the living room. She and Fred had moved in. They lived like one big happy family. Except...Coen was not as happy as he wanted to be. He stepped down from his position at the company and gave Fred full control.

He had to share his woman with Fred and Corrine. Charlene thought he wanted this because he never expressed his discontent for swinging with them. She was happy. Her baby was healty. Her man had money. She didn't have to work. And she was planning a gorgeous wedding on a cruise ship to Cozumel.

She sent a private invitation to Mark, Kendra, Chima, and Ashlyn. The invitation said, "You're invited to the private cruise bash birthday for Charlene."

Coen told her that he wanted it to be a surprise for the guests that they were attending a wedding. She agreed that seeing the look on Kendra and Mark's face would be priceless. They thought that she was down and out, yet, she was still winning.

She smiled. Corrine touched the baby girl's foot, "She is precious."

"You think you'll have one?"

"We will one day. Maybe in two years."

Charlene stood, "I'm going to go put her in the crib."

Corrine eased closer to Coen, "So, when's the big day?" she asked.

Coen shrugged, "We're still thinking about a date. We'll probably wait until Chloe turns a year."

Corrine nodded, "Sound good. I'm off to the office." She leaned in and kissed his mouth, "I may have married your brother but please know that my heart has always been yours." She stood and left.

Coen sighed, "I have to get rid of the two of you..."

She was in the nursery with the fraternal twin boys. Femi Jabori Landry and Nicholas Mark Landry. She looked at Femi. His pretty brown skin in contrast to his brother's fair skin. What was this phenomenon? In her heart, she knew.

Ingrid had taken Behati out for her daily stroll. She was already a year old and quite a smart little girl learning multiple languages.

The doorbell sounded. She left the boys to answer the door. Chima stood there with two gift bags, "I have gifts for the boys."

She smiled and stepped aside. "Come in. They are in their room."

She closed the door and they walked to the room. He saw them lying next to each other. He touched the tops of their heads. He turned to look at Kendra, "You know he's mine."

She nodded, "You said you wanted another child. You have a son."

He smiled, "Thank you. I won't ask anything else of you."

Mark and I have decided not to have any more children. He had a vasectomy.

Chima nodded, "he told me."

"I suppose I should do the same. That way the four of us can enjoy each other without any more slip-ups."

She grinned, "Mark is okay if you want another. I'm okay. No one has to know. It's between the four of us."

He walked over to her and kissed her mouth, "Another child?"

She nodded, "Not now. I am on the pill. We can do it in a couple of years."

He smiled, "I'd love that."

He looked at his watch, "How much time do we have?"

"About ten minutes."

They left the nursery and went to the guest bedroom. He had her on the dresser. He worked her middle rapidly. The dresser didn't move. It was solid wood. He smiled as he stroked her wet juicy center. Life was too sweet.

Days before Coen and Charlene were scheduled to leave for a flight to the United States, he was confronted by Corrine. She was heated that they planned to get married and not invite her or Fred. She shouted from the top of her lungs at him as they were outside by the pool, "I have always had your back!" she complained.

"Have you? Because fucking my half-brother and running me out of my company. My inheritance is not having my back. It's called fucking me over."

She touched his face and cried, "Coen, you have to know that I have been doing my best to protect you. If I didn't do the things that I did, you could have been hurt."

"I trusted you and you betrayed me."

"No. no. I swear. Coen. It's always been you. You my love."

A voice sounded. They turned to see Fred holding a handgun, "I knew you loved this fucker more than you let on."

Corrine shook her head, "Fred, no, please."

But Fred had that wild look in his eyes, "I can kill all of you and take over my father's company. The hell with you both." He sent a bulled into the chamber. Just before he attempted to pull the trigger, there was a loud pop.

His eyeswidened. Blood oozed from his mouth. His body hit the patio floor. Corrine screamed uncle Cas? What the fuck?" she asked. She hurried over to her dying husband.

Cas stood next to Coen. They stared at her. She looked up, "Why?"

"No one is stealing my brother's life's work. It will stay in this family. Not some bastard he created with a whore. And as for you," Cas barked.

She gulped, "Please don't kill me."

"Oh, we aren't going to kill you. But you are going far far away. Never to be seen or heard from again. Two men snatched her and took her away.

Cas turned to Coen, "Problem solved."

Coen smiled, "Thank you so much, Uncle Cas."

"It was my absolute pleasure. The cops are on their way. As far as they know. This fuck shit asshole is responsible for the deaths of your father, mother, sister and brother in law. His **** will not make anyone weap."

****

When Charlene returned from a day of shopping, Coen told her how Fred tried to kill him. And how he was responsible for the **** of most of his family. She was relieved to know he was no longer able to hurt anyone. He even told her that Corrine had died and that he would have a closed-casket funeral for her.

The next day, everything was arranged. Corrine was but a memory. Now, he only had his fiance and his new baby in the house. Even though the events were tragic, he wanted to proceed with the wedding at sea.

****

The night seemed perfect. Coen was in a store. He perused through the aisles looking at bottles of wine. He had the phone pasted to his ear as she spoke to Chalene. "I'll be home shortly," he informed her.

The call ended. He found a bottle of red wine and proceeded to make his purchase. As he stood by waiting, someone bumped into him. He rubbed the back of his neck and grumbled, "How about a pardon me."

He paid for his item and left the store. He stepped outside. His eyes were hazy. Things seemed to be coming and going around him. Voices sounded distorted, "Sir, are you okay?"

He dropped to the ground. He gasped for air. His eyes were wide open. He couldn't speak.

****

Days later...

Kendra was in the living kitchen talking with Ashlyn. They had just finished having a big family dinner. Mark walked into the kitchen with Chima, "I just got word from Charlene," he said solemnly.

"What's wrong?" Kendra asked with concern.

"She said her fiancé died."

They gasped, "Oh my. I was hoping to meet this guy. She never mentioned his name."

Mark shrugged, "I feel bad for her. Just when things were looking up."

Kendra rubbed his shoulders, "I know. Is she coming back?"

"Yes. in about a week."

Ashlyn sighed, "I was looking forward to Mexico."

Chima made a face.

"Come on, babe. You were too."

He nodded, "Yeah. I was but...we can't go now, right?"

"I don't see why the four of us can't still go. We paid our money. It's too much of a hassle to try and cancel. Let's just go."

Kendra smiled, "I think that is a great idea."

As the happy couples spoke of their plans in the kitchen. Ingrid was in the living room with her niece. She received a text message in German, "Done."

She smiled devilishly.

The End...
