You watch wondering what could be in the box. Elizbet pulls out a long black rod. ‘That’s one cool dildo’ is all you can think.

Like she is reading your mind Elizbet smiles. “Care to try it?”

“What do you do with it?”

“Just touch it, my dear, if you’re the right person, you’ll know what to do with it.”

You approach cautiously.

“Just touch it?”

“Yes.”

You reach for it. The black handle is hard and cool, yet comfortable. You caress it with your other hand. It is smooth and cool.

“You want it, don’t you?”

You don’t even know what it is or what it does, but you do. You nod.

Elizbet stands up and draws a pentagram on the floor.

“Just step there.”

Step into a pentagram. For just a moment you wonder if Emily’s demon preoccupation isn’t warranted. You swing the rod like a nightstick. If stepping in a pentagram is what it takes for Elizbet to give it to you, you’re willing.

You step in and Elizbet begins a quiet chant. You can barely hear it, but it isn’t English. You caress the phallic rod. Increasingly it feels like it belongs in your hand.

“There. All done. The Malexorum is yours now and forever. I’d like to promote you to HR immediately.”

“Promote me?”

“Yes, I need help and you are the perfect candidate. The salary is triple with much improved benefits.”

You don’t know what to say. “When do I start?”

“Tomorrow. For now head back to the mailroom.”

You nod and exit. You almost skip down the hallway. You saunter by Hecate.

She looks at you. “I see you’ll be joining us. It’s about time Elizbet found some help.”

“How? How did you know?”

She points the the rod in your hand. Already it feels like it’s part of you.

“You have a Malexorum.”

You realize you need to be more discreet, but you want the Malexorum next to your skin. As if in response to your thoughts it shrinks and becomes a black bracelet. It looks even prettier than obsidian.

Hecate stares at you. “Most impressive.”

You grin back. “Thanks.”

You resume heading to the elevator. You feel like the Malexorum is both draining you and becoming more a part of you with every step. Overall it is not unpleasant.

You step into the elevator and are surprised.
