What do you do?

Stab the eye

In two bounding strides you stand before the giant eye. With your feet planted, you thrust your spear directly into its pupil. Despite the almost incorporeal look of the eye floating on the darkness of the corridor, your spear does make contact with something. As you pull back with your weapon, so too does the eye appear to rear back, squinting and bleeding from the wound you inflicted. An unnatural roar fills the air and shakes the floor beneath your feet, and a sixth sense tells you that tentacles will be on you any second. You manage to stab the eye once more before a slimy, black tentacle wraps itself around your pelvis and chucks you against the wall to your right.

The wind is knocked completely out of you by the impact, and you sink to the ground. “Evan! My knife!” Lia shouts at you, and a quick survey of your surroundings reveals the small blade resting not two feet away from you. With the knife in one hand, and your spear in the other, you push to your feet again. Lia is in the process of kicking and batting at four different tentacles that all want to get better grips on her arms and legs, and somehow she’s still managed to keep one arm free, so you dash over and hand her the knife. Then, as she uses it to continue fending off tentacles, you start sweeping your spear at the things in a **** attempt to keep them all at a distance.

It doesn’t work.

A tentacle you didn’t see coming wraps itself around your arm and lurches you to the side. Then another grabs your leg and the two of them work together to lift you up and slam you into the ceiling. It’s a weird feeling: you’re both in devastating pain and completely numb to it at the same time. You can hear Lia screaming as you fall to the ground. What she’s screaming about, be it you or her own situation, you can’t be sure; you can’t even move right now. Everything is heavy all of a sudden, and the dim light of the corridor fades to black.

Your senses return to you moments later, to the tune of Lia’s continued screams. Mustering all the adrenaline your body can produce, you push yourself to stand once again. Once you’ve regained your footing, you realize you’ve lost your spear. Your vision sweeps across the corridor, and suddenly you’re flying through the air again, this time to land on your back with a tentacle holding you down. Your head swims from the impact of the stone floor. As your vision clears, you look up to see Lia fully restrained, held spread-eagle before the massive red eye.
