Spirit Capturing

Spiritualists are unique. The ability to see and interact with spirits is not something that everybody was born with. But those who were born with such abilities are capable of capturing spirits. There are 2 ways to do this.

The first is a contract. More docile or generous spirits will be willing to do this-such as most nature spirits, some animal spirits, some holy spirits, and a few elemental spirits. Mythical spirits, demonic spirits, and dragon spirits, however, will almost never make a contract. The only exception to this is if a spirit is a family spirit, and has agreed with a predecessor of a family to assist the bloodline, and be passed down from generation to generation within the family. In this method, a spirit and a spiritualist agree to work together for a certain period of time, for a certain price. This price is almost never money-usually it has something to do with fulfilling the desires of the spirit. For example, a river spirit may agree to contract with a spiritualist for a decade if the spiritualist agrees to clean the river that the spirit was born from.

The second method is through battle. If a spirit is defeated in battle, the spiritualist that landed the finishing blow may choose to forcibly bond the spirit, by using their spirit power (a power that dwells within all spiritualists, and is what allows a spiritualist to see spirits) to overpower the weakened defeated spirit. A spirit gained through this method is a spirit gained for life. They may start off as defiant, however powerful compulsion eventually encourages a spirit to become loyal to their spiritualist.

A spiritualist's maximum number of captured spirits is dependent on their spirit power. Contracted spirits provide no drain or benefit to a person's spirit power. However, the same is not the case with captured spirits. A captured spirit will drain away the spiritualist's spirit power. However, when spirits level up, the spiritualist gains more spirit power. By the time a spirit reaches tier 2, the increase to spirit power provided by the spirit will outweigh the drain on the spirit power from the spirit.
