My breath catches in my throat as I frantically kick my leg back at the zombie holding my foot. The zombie growls as my foot hits its shoulder, its teeth gnashing as my foot stops its momentum. As it turns its head, making to bite my calf, I wrench my right leg forward with all my strength.

The zombie promptly pulls backward, my foot abruptly popping free of its shoe, freeing me from the zombie. I half-drag, half-push myself forward, trying to get away from the zombies, even as I use my momentum to push myself to my feet. The zombie howls as I make it to my feet, and I look back as I begin to run. The first zombie is trying to get to its feet, my ragged shoe in its hand, as the other shambles past it, already reaching for me. As more howls rise up around me, I decide it can keep the damn shoe.

As I sprint away from the zombies, my now-bare right foot stinging with every step against the rough asphalt, I try to find a place to hide. There's a couple of smaller buildings to my sides, as well as what looks to be a three-story office building just up the street. Alternately, I can duck into a nearby alley, try to shake the zombies, and double back to my hideout, or maybe still get to the convenience store.
