Chapter 8 by BelleHades BelleHades

Go to Nucleina's Homeworld or skip ahead a few years?

It was almost ready. The New Year was fast approaching. Pluton Island, a magical new island Nucleina created with instructions from Gene, to get his future Empire ready, was completely enshrouded in freezing fog, despite being precisely on the Tropic of Capricorn in the South Atlantic, right on the tectonic ridge. The three cities, Neuve Pluton, New Denver, and Nuke Factories, currently populated with just supernatural entities for the time being, were all receiving their finishing touches. The population was approximately 10,000 citizens each. Pluton Island itself was covered in magical ice and snow, and was protected by both a magical shield and 24-hour hurricane **** winds circling the island. This is also the first time in human Earthling history that magic this powerful had been observed on Earth in real life. It was previously restricted to tales of mythology and Hollywood movies.

It was also almost time to magically hijack all the worlds tv broadcast to transmit from Gene's new office in Neuve Pluton, although it was still 12 hours away. Currently, he was sorting through online job applications. All of the government positions Gene created have been filled already, so he was really just looking at filling two final positions, a bartender and a cafeteria cook for Gene's Hangout, a public recreational area Gene once designed for his Sims games, inspired by a series of dreams he had years prior.

Eventually, a name stood out from the rest. Adelle Bertin, a female demon as old as Earth itself, who was applying to be the site's bartender. Gene wondered what made her interested in bartending for his Hangout? Adelle didn't have much of a resume, as this would apparently be her first job in the mortal plane. The only job she had listed on her resume was as an "Archangel Hunter," a job she marked as having quit, although no reason was given. The only place of residence Adelle gave was "Neuve Pluton", but no street address. She did cite her hobby of mixing drinks as her inspiration for wanting to work at Gene's Hangout.

"Kewl," Gene said to himself. "I wonder how long she has been doing it?" Gene reached for an intercom, and buzzed for the front desk.

"Yes, King Empire?" Inquired a young, female voice.

"Lilly, I'm looking at Adelle Bertin's job app for my Hangout, but there is no contact info. Do you know how I can reach her?" Before Lilly could respond, Gene sees a gravitational singularity manifest near the entrance to his office, to his left. Within moments, Gene saw a tall female figure step through. She seemed about 5 foot 11, slim, brunette with African black skin, and had pink eye colors. Her bust seemed small, about BB or so. She also had long bat wings, held by her shoulder blades. She immediately retracted them upon seeing how small Gene's office was. Her attire was a light colored business casual.

"Never mind, she's here now. Thank you, Lilly."

"No problem, King Gene," Lilly exclaimed.

"Adelle Bertin, I believe?" I stood up and extended my hand for a handshake. Adelle seemed momentarily confused, before remembering handshakes were appropriate greetings for Earthlings.

"Yes, indeed I am, Mister Empire," Adelle responded in a thick, Kenyan accent, shaking Gene's hand. She seemed to be in a decent mood as well. Her handshake seemed loose, but knowing she seemed new to this, Gene figured he wouldn't need to include that when deciding to hire her. They both sat down at Gene's desk and began the interview, which lasted for half an hour.

During the interview, Gene learned that Adelle came to Pluton Island since she liked the idea of what Gene had in mind for his future Empire, but especially his public Hangout, and wished to try out having her hobby as a job, to serve drinks to **** patrons looking for a good time.

At one point, Gene asked, "So, if I may ask, what persuaded you to stop being an Archangel Hunter?" Adelle's mood went south, and she anxiously looked around, before leaning forward to speak in a soft, somber tone. Gene had to fight a sudden impulse to lean back, but managed to lean forward onto my desk as well to better hear her.

"I..." She hesitated, but resumed, "I... had to destroy a long lasting marriage and kill someone's spouse. I've actually done it before but... For some reason, this time was different. I don't know if it's from learning about you the week before, or what, but... I dunno..."

Gene knew exactly what Adelle meant, and nodded. He could see it in her bright pink, almond-shaped eyes that she seriously regrets it, and now all the earlier couples she destroyed too. Gene looked down, not knowing what to say at first.

"Adelle, I take it it was from hearing about one of my biggest fears?"

She hesitated, beginning to feel a familiar tightness in her throat. "Yes, I think that's it. The couple I destroyed that last time... They were together longer than I have existed, and was the longest lasting relationship I killed in that career. Knowing that there are some people, mortal and non-mortal alike, who have never experienced that kind of happiness in any of their life or reincarnation cycles... And seeing as you're one of them, I now fully understand why you fear such a loss..."

Gene felt that tightness in his own throat too now, and he noticed both of them were getting watery eyes. After a few moments of teary-eyed silence, it was Gene who broke down. Adelle got out of her seat to come behind the desk, crouched down next to Gene to comfort him, and rubbing his back.

"I'm sorry, Gene. It'll be okay," Adelle spoke softly.

"Thank you," Gene responded as they stood up and hugged.

"And besides, King Gene, this doesn't feel like a typical job interview for a Western country," Adelle joked as she and the King let go of their hugging.

"Bah," Gene responded with a joking dismissive hand gesture. "Fuck Western tradition, haha. That's why I'm doing this," he joked. He and Adelle both chuckled. "Anyways, welcome aboard, Adelle." They shook hands and hugged again. After that, Adelle asked Gene if he had found a cook for an upstairs cafeteria at his Hangout. Gene explained he was looking for an older gal, to hopefully discourage visitors from "ruining" their food. Adelle was confused for a moment about what Gene meant, before remembering the fine print on the job posting, and burst into laughter.

"A fucking sex club?!" Adelle asked, still lauging hard about the whole thing.

"Not just any sex club, its a free use club. Actually its more like a free, free use bath house, for anyone of any sex and orientation," Gene clarified.

"That's fuckin' awesome, man!" Adelle complimented as she fisr pumped the King. Most societies would frown on such casual interactions, but Gene didn't give a damn; he always thought his own damn species was too prudish as it is. He also explained to Adelle that the cook for the cafeteria would be an older gal also because Gene liked the idea of some horny old granny "punishing" some hot young stud for "misbehaving."

Gene and Adelle both chuckled at that idea. After that, they said their goodbyes and Gene went back to perusing the online applications as Adelle left via another singularity, which Gene assumed to be either a portal or a wormhole.
