Shelly. Starting close to home.

“I…” You cough once. “I think I’ll go to my sister’s dream.” You shamefully but honestly admit to your mentor.

“Starting close, heh? Good. You’ll be able to see the results faster that way. Short term experimentation is a good way to start.” He nods in approval. “Is she hot?” He asks you with a knowing, teasing smile.

“Very.” You smile sheepishly.

“Not constrained by societal norms! I like that!” He laughs. “I knew you were a good pick for this. Just remember this, John.” He says in the most serious tone he’s even taken with you. “There’s a difference between doing what society thinks is wrong, and actually doing the wrong thing.”

You’re confused. If society thinks it’s wrong, then isn’t it actually wrong?

Noticing you confusion, Mr. Ortiz smiles wryly. “I would’ve though you of all people wouldn’t have a hard time understanding this. Well, just keep it in mind okay. I strongly believe that, even if you don’t understand it, you’ll be able to feel the difference.”

“Thanks, Mr. Ortiz.” You tell him. Your teacher fades away from existence, leaving you alone.

You breathe deeply and concentrate on your sister Shelly. Since she’s back she should be asleep already.

All the door around you move, whether they’re going forward or backwards, you can’t tell. A door stops right in front of you, and you recognize it as Shelly’s bedroom door.
