Chapter 4 by Farkgonz Farkgonz

Does she watch the cows get milked? Or does she head back to the house?

She watches

Jane lazily stood, stretched, and put on her blue, plaid button-up, but didn't bother buttoning it. She walked over to the fence wearing only the button-up, all of the ranch hands had surely gone home by now. She looked up and saw that the sign read "Receiving Area". All of the commotion however, seemed to be happening a bit further inside the barn. She climbed to the top of the split rail fence to get a better view.

About thirty to forty cows were standing around in a pen, and above them the machinery whirred as giant metal racks and girders swung, descending on an individual cow, wrapping a leather collar gently around it's neck, and then leading the cow further into the barn, but Jane couldn't see exactly where. This process repeated for the next few minutes, as cows were lead in. Jane decided to climb to the top of the fence to see if she could see over a short wall and watch what happened next, but as she got to the top of the fence she slipped and fell into the pen, as she did, her plaid shirt got caught on the fence and was torn off of her.

It had only been a short fall, but when Jane stood she was covered in mud and manure. "Eww, gross!" she uttered, trying to wipe the filth away from her eyes. A bit dazed, Jane slowly began walking back towards the fence, her feet slipping slightly into the ground as she walked. Suddenly, she heard a whirring noise above her, but didn't have time to turn before she felt a leather collar get placed and adjusted around her neck.

Jane screamed, but all of the ranch hands had already gone home for the evening, and Lisa probably assumed that Jane was still with Mark. Jane tugged at the collar, but it wasn't meant to be removed except by the machinery, and it slowly dragged Jane towards the cows that she had been so eager to view before. Despite her struggling, the machinery was designed to move adult cows, and had no difficulty moving Jane deeper into the barn. Her only hope was that it would recognize that she wasn't a cow.

Does the machine recognize that she's human?
