Chapter 3 by hambo hambo

What goes wrong first?

She stumbles across a 'cursed' pond

Justine had been walking for hours in the hot sun when she heard what sounded like running water off in the distance.

"Well, I am a bit thirsty, and a short break would be nice," said the Paladin.

She stepped off the path, going through the woods and towards the noise.

The heat and humidity was absolutely unbearable, especially for someone as overdressed as Justine was. The trees seemed to trap all the warmth on what had been a typical summer day, and soon the pious woman was sweating buckets. She thought about heading back, but after a good fifteen minutes of traipsing through the underbrush, she felt she had come too far to go back empty handed.

Finally she stepped into a clearing, her heart lifting at the sight. Before her stood a beautiful pond with the bluest, most pristine water the holy woman had ever seen. The pond appeared to be quite deep, and was refreshingly cool to the touch when Justine removed a glove and dipped a finger into it. At its center was a large rock jutting above the surface, a small but steady stream of water pouring down it, apparently from a natural spring.

"Gods be praised! They are rewarding me for my steadfastness and refusal to give up!" Justine offered a quick prayer, removed her other glove and begin drinking from the water. She took small respectable sips at first, but was soon gulping it like an unmannered peasant. It was truly the best, most refreshing thing she had ever had.

However, she was so distracted by it that she failed to notice the effect it was having on her, until it was too late...

What does it do?
