She plays tourist

Aurelie found herself full of energy. The excitement of travel and her naps on the long flight had stripped any tiredness from her, and she was eager to get out and explore the city. She took a quick shower to freshen up, then changed into a loose top and a pair of skinny jeans. She tied a sweater around her neck by the arms and took the elevator down to the lobby.

She spoke to the concierge, getting a map of the downtown area and a guide to sights, restaurants and shopping. He added a few recommendations, and armed with her new knowledge she stepped out of the hotel to begin her explorations. She felt slightly hungry, and the concierge had recommended a cafe across the plaza from the hotel. It looked like a great place to people watch, and it's patio seating had a fine view of the harbour and the north shore mountains.

With a smile and a toss of her red hair, Aurelie strode across the pavement to the cafe. She bought a cafe au lait and a croissant, carrying them out on the patio. She sipped and ate slowly, looking through the guidebook and trying to decide what to do first.

According to the map she was a few blocks away from a tourist area called Gastown that looked to be a revitalised part of the old city. Near that was a Chinatown that apparently dated from the city's foundation, and appeared to be full of quirky stores, plus a traditional garden. A few blocks in another direction there was a street of high end shopping. Not far from that was an art gallery, which while it certainly was no match for the Louvre, looked like it might be worth a look. A little further away an old warehouse district had been turned into a warren of boutiques and restaurants called Yaletown, and on the far side of downtown some small ferries offered transport around a secondary recreational harbour dotted with shopping and other tourist attractions.

She ate and drank as she read, trying to make up her mind what to do.
