Chapter 8 by Ben Rosewood Ben Rosewood

Is Rosie okay?

She's fine

Indigo gives you directions to your destination. Within five minutes you find yourself in front of Costa Rosa Youth Center, where you find a redhead leaning on the sign. She's slim but tall. Almost too tall in an endearing way. Her porcelain skin, track pants, and plain black sweater had become a canvas for paint splatter. Much like the paint that covered her body, her shoulder-length hair is messy and wild.

Upon seeing Indigo get out of the car, the redhead gives her a meek wave.

The two girls spend a few seconds talking before they both get in the back of your car. When you turn your head towards the two, you get a closer look at Rosie's freckle-covered face and beak of a nose.

"We all good?" You ask.

"Yeah. So Rosie, this is Eric."

Rosie looks to you with her hazel eyes. "Hey."

"Hey Rosie. I'm your new neighbor."

"Oh... okay."

"So you sure you've got everything?" Indigo asks.

Rosie pats down her pockets. "Uh... Yeah."

"Just making sure."

You pull onto the road as Rosie says, "So uhh... sorry for forgetting my purse."

"Oh it's okay Rosie. Happens to the best of us, right Eric?"

"Sure does." You reply.

"So you have fun today Rosie?" Indigo asks.

"Yeah."

"See you did a bit of painting."

"Yeah... I sure did."

"Painting anything specific?"

"Yeah, uh... Miss Lazara had us paint a portrait, but we had to make it abstract."

"Sounds interesting. So is it done?"

"Yeah, it's just drying."

"You'll have to show us some time."

"I guess."

You glance in the rear-view mirror, to see Rosie staring at the back of your seat, scratching the back of her head. Indigo is once again texting away, but she seems a lot calmer than she was before.

"So did you paint that picture of the dog, Rosie?" You ask.

"Oh yeah... That was my old dog." The hint of sadness in her voice reminds you of Indigo's warning.

"It's a... nice paintings."

"Thanks."

Now near the apartments, Indigo says, "Could you drop us off at our place?"

"Sure, no problem.” You reply before parking in front of the girl's apartment complex.

"Thanks Eric."

"Not a problem girls."

"Say, how would you feel about coming around for dinner tonight?"

"Yeah sure, if that's okay with Molly. Molly's the cook, right?"

"She'll make it work." Indigo then nudges Rosie. "Especially if she's got her assistant here."

In response, Rosie flashes a hint of a smile.

"Sounds like a deal." You say.

"Great. How about we exchange numbers and I'll give you a call?"

"Sure."

After giving Indigo your number, the three of you go your separate ways. As you ascend the elevator up to your floor, you feel your phone vibrate. Upon pulling it out, you find a photo of a girl who's pulled down her yoga pants to flaunt her toned ass. It only takes you a second to realize who sent it, but before you can reply, Indigo texts you.

'just making sure I got the right number ;)'

'and giving me my reward?'

'something like that'

'well Im always happy to help out especially for that kinda reward’

What's next?
