Chapter 2
by dunadin
Who are you, Champion?
Shankara Telvanii (A Dark Elf Mage)
Forty years... you can scarcely believe it, but it's been forty years since you've been thrown into this dank imperial prison. As a Telvanni noble man's son, it would have been troublesome for the Tribunal to just **** or imprison you.. Instead they convinced the Imperials to imprison you, planting false evidence of treason and sedition...
For forty years you've been rotting in this damp, cold cellar waiting for eath. All the while you've been constantly rehashing and running all your old spells and methods in your head, trying not to forget them. You've even been practising the motions of casting, even though the manacles have drained you of all your magicka.. For one goal, in the off chance that you escape this hell hole, to burn down every single Tribunal temple in all of Morrowind and kill every single worthless ordinator and temple lapdog that walks the Nirn.
You can see the sky outside through a barred window high up on the west side, it looks it should be around six in the evening.. you think to yourself before you go back to practising the motions for a short distance teleport spell...
Just as you finish practising, you hear the sound of many foot steps from far... it is hard to place how many people there are... but they seem to be getting closer and closer until you see three guards and a very well dressed Noble Man stand before your cellar door.
Noble man: "My sons...they're dead, aren't they?"
Guard 1: "We don't know that, Sire. The messenger only said they were attacked."
Noble man: "No, they're dead. I know it"
Guard 1: "My job right now is to get you to safety."
Noble man: "I know this place ... the prison?"
Guard 1: "Yes, your Majesty. Beneath the Legion Compound. We're headed for a secret passage known only to the Blades. No one can follow us through here."
You hear this conversation take place outside your cellar door, before the guards turn to you. "Stand ASIDE prisoner, and face the wall" they yell at you and you comply with their orders. Shortly aftewards you can hear the jingle of keys and your cellar door opening. Then you hear the footsteps of guards entering your cell, followed shortly by the sound of heavy stones moving...Feeling curious, you sneak a peek behind you and notice a very large passage way where your cellar wall used to be.
Guard 1:" Unfortunately this door can be opened and closed only from this side, your majesty. We should kill this prisoner, just in case"
You turn around, ready to defend yourself anyway you can.. But you see that there is nothing to fear. The noble man has stayed the guard's blade.
Noble man: "Let him be"
He looks tired and worried, then suddenly he looks startled when he sees at your face.
Noble man : "You ... I've seen you... Let me see your face... You are the one from my dreams... Then the stars were right, and this is the day. Gods give me strength."
Curious at the identity of your savior, you ask him who he is and what he is talking about.
Emperor: "I am your emperor, Uriel Septim. By the grace of the Gods, I serve Tamriel as her ruler. You are a citizen of Tamriel, and you, too, shall serve her in your own way."
Now it's your turn to look startled as you realize the tired looking old man standing in front of you is the Emperor of Tamriel. A descendant of Tiber Septim himself. As you stare slack-jawed at the old man, he continues his explanation.
Emperor: "Assassins attacked my sons, and I'm next. My Blades are leading me out of the city along a secret escape route. By chance, the entrance to that escape route leads through your cell."
With that, the emperor turns around and leads his entourage into the passage , leaving you to stare in disbelief.
(Shankara stands about six foot tall and has a lean muscular build. His face is chisled and his eyes blood red. He has a long and unkempt beard after all these years in prison.)
