Chapter 9
by android1966
Who?
Shakira.
Of course you recognise the face staring back at you from the mirror, Shakira is one of the most recognisable women on the planet. It takes quite a while for that initial shock to wear off and you see the state of your mind reflected in the expression on Shakira's, your face. As that first stunned reaction begins to fade you begin to notice additional facts. Shakira, undoubtedly a beautiful woman by any standard has been in the public eye for decades now, but the face reflected is clearly as she appeared back when she first hit the pop scene more than twenty years ago. You cannot recall exactly how old she was back then but guess somewhere in her mid-twenties.
A white sheet covers your new body up to the neck so that only the head and face are visible at first. Your hair is a lustrous golden mane that frames that beautiful face in loose curls that fall well below shoulder level. You experimentally change your expression, and see that the reflection faithfully copies your intentions without a hint that the image is that of a construct and not in fact a living face. Even opening your mouth wide and drawing back your lips in a snarl and sticking out your tongue cannot reveal any trace of artificiality to the face, the interior of the mouth being just as perfectly formed as the outer appearance.
"That's not possible," You say aloud. "You can't have replicated a human that perfectly."
"Not perfectly," The scientist contradicts, "There are differences between my synthetics and living human bodies of course."
"What differences?" You ask, mixed emotions of horror and fascination evident in the slight tremor in your now feminine and sultry voice.
"Well, outwardly you are indistinguishable from a flesh and blood human," The Doctor explains, "The outer layer is of course a latex composite, the same consistency as human skin and flesh. Internally however there are little similarities to a living person. No circulatory system, no digestive system or any internal organs for that matter."
"Not that I would regard those as imperfections, quite the opposite," He continues, "All that space saved by dispensing with useless clutter like a heart, lungs, liver and so on means I could incorporate a large battery in the entirety of the torso."
"Battery?" You hear a hint of alarm in your new voice as it occurs to you that without organs you cannot eat and yet still need to gain energy and power from some source. "What, you mean I have to be recharged or I shut down?"
"Yes, just so," The old man confirms, "The battery cells are the most advanced of course and it depends on the power usage naturally, but a full charge would last anywhere from twelve hours of strenuous activity to forty-eight hours of light activity."
You realise that during your conversation with the scientist that apart from your face and head you have not moved at all, in fact now when you attempt to move your hands and arms your body from the neck downwards will not respond. You put more effort and concentration into attempting movement, a foot, a hand, or any body part. Nothing responds to your will to move.
"I can't move," You cry out in panic. "What is wrong?"
"Oh, I had quite forgotten." The man replies, "A precaution I'm afraid. I was not sure if you would freak out on being activated so motor controls below the neck are still immobilised. Though you seem fairly composed, as long as you agree to follow my instructions I will activate your body now."
Agree to follow his instructions?
