Chapter 7 by Chaser IV Chaser IV

How will you handle the advertising?

Send ads to all three

It might be a little more costly than you were hoping for, but you decided to try the papers in all three potential areas for two weeks and see how things go from there. With any luck, you’ll have most of the rooms rented out before the end of that period of time and have a good idea of which town/city is the most likely to fill up the rest of them.

The next day, your inbox has already gotten about a dozen or so applications. You have the computer print them out while you head to the kitchen and make yourself a quick breakfast of scrambled eggs, toast, and some OJ. Not exactly a 5-star bed-and-breakfast you’re running, but it’ll get you through the morning at least. Maybe you can look into hiring some help around the house?

The idea has some merit: rent out one or two rooms to a couple of people at a “premium” price in exchange for helping out around the house. It would certainly beat having to clean the entire place yourself or having to cook for everyone when all the rooms get filled out. You’ll keep that in mind when you look through the applications. But first, you have some eggs and toast with your name on them.

A couple of days later, and you’ve decided that now is a good time to go through all the applications you’ve received and make a few preliminary choices. You’ve already ruled out all the guys because not ONE of them could make the effort of writing out a proper application. As it stands, you are severely annoyed of dudes you don’t know calling you “BRO” or “MAH MAN!” or some other illiterate text-speaking neanderthal who thinks the “bro-code” means that your advertisement is basically for a party house.

Thankfully, the female applicants have actually put in some effort into presenting themselves in their applications. Not to say that all of them are formal or super professional, but they aren’t butchering the English language every other word and you can actually make sense of their reasoning. Some are obviously first-timers regarding the process, and others have references to previous roommates or landlords for you to go through at some point or another.

There’s no rush to fill out every room in your place right this instant, but you’d be lying if you said you weren’t anxious to have at least a FEW rooms possibly rented out in the next few days. So after going through the applications again, you pick out the best ones (which is pretty much all of them except the previously mentioned text-speaking illiterate neanderthal “bros”) and prepare to schedule an interview.

Who is the first applicant you contact?
