Chapter 4
by maester
Does John stay home?
School
“Naw, Mom I’m fine, I feel fine!” He glances up at the clock on the wall and he sees that there was an hour before school starts but with out a car he figure he had go ahead and get moving. “I got to go Mom.” He cannot wait to get to the lab and start finding out more about this Chronisilia stuff, Karen is going to flip. Somehow, the retrovirus has given he control over time itself!
He leaps, up give her a kiss on the cheek, and head for the door. He grabs his backpack.
His mom stops he. “John, don't you remember your car is at school you'll need to wait for Julie to take you.” He thinks, ‘not if I can stop time.’ He tries to stop it right then but for some reason he cannot.
"I'll walk Mom."
"I don't want you to go walking after what happened yesterday."
He half smile, "Yeah you're right."
“Just go tell her to hurry up.”
“Sure thing Mom,” he answers.
He run up the stairs and knocks on the door. “Julie, hurry up I need you to take me to school.” She makes not response. He has to wait just outside the door. He leans against the wall. She seems to take forever. Nevertheless, she does finally emerge for the bathroom beaming.
“What you are doing?” she asks.
“My car is at school, remember?”
“Oh, right, go on to my car and I’ll be ready in a second.” She is not there in a “second.” He had wanted to get there in time to talk to Karen but now he just wanted to beat the bell.
He finally gets to school. Julie seeks out some people she knows and he goes looking for Karen. However, before he can find her, he begins to sense danger. He hears heavy footsteps thundering towards him. “Hey, dork!” He turns around to see the 6’3” 340lbs muscled behemoth, Erick Gates. As the flame attracts moths so geeks attract bullies and this one had long ago taken to favoring he as his target. “It’s klobbering time, Geek-man”
“Whoa, Erick, come on man, calm down, we can work this out”
He does not respond with words, instead, he pulls back his fist to beat him into oblivion.
“BRRRrrriiiinnnngggg!” The school-bell sounds.
“Saved by the bell, you little shit.” He drops John and trudges toward the school.
All John can think about is finding Karen but there is no time, ironically. If only John had time, he could learn how to control it. He cannot stop to consider it during first period PE however, for today they are playing dodge. ‘What Sadistic PE teacher came up with this,” he thinks as he dodges another of Erick’s “Ball Busters.”
Computer with Mrs. Quims is no great fun, his working on getting binary system computers to work with the new hexadic systems. Ms. Cummings was not nearly as interesting as was trying to figure how he could use that time stopping thing again, not to mention all the ramifications, and question. Did he age when he stopped time? Had he really stopped time, or was he moving at an insane speed? Could he reverse time? What would happen to other people if he touched them will time was stopped? Et cetera.
Finally, he gets to his Advanced Human A&P class. He look around for Karen, but she is late to class and by the time she is seated Miss. Thatcher has already started class and is reminding everyone that they need to go ahead and get started on their presentations. With the ringing of the lunch bell, the class raises to leave. He grab Karen’s arm.
“Karen, you got to meet me in the lab on the third after school.”
“What is it, John,” she asks anxiously. “Are you getting sick?”
“No no no I am not sick, I don’t think,” he put his hands on her arms. “Just see me in the lab. Kay?”
After Adv. English with Miss Furr he rushes off to laboratory, but Karen had beaten him there. She was pacing back and forth. “Okay, so what is it, “she fearfully demands.
“I am having a serious side effect.” Karen looks afraid. “I was able to stop time this morning.”
“What?” she asks doubtfully.
“I know it sounds pretty crazy but if Einstein was right about E equaling mc² then it is the only explanation.”
Bewildered Karen states, “I still don’t get it what happened?”
“I was able to make time stop this morning. I was getting a shower and I was startled when my sis came banging on the door. The soap slipped out of my hand, and flew at my head. I closed my eyes to brace for impact. But nothing when I opened my eyes the soap was hovering in mid air and the shower water had stopped moving.”
Now her face was full of wonder. “Wow but how are sure you weren’t just moving really fast, which that too would be amazing.”
“That were so and Einstein was right then I should have become a lot heavier and then this and more time would had to pass for everyone else.”
Karen like a child with new toy asks him, “well show me.”
He grimaces, “I have not been able to do it again.”
“Well you said your sister startled you try tensing up like the scare would have made you do.”
He shakes his head. “Tried that.”
“Well what else were you doing, how did you feel, what were you thinking about?”
That is when he remembers. He had been jerking off just before it happened.
Does he dare tell her the truth?
