Chapter 4 by xmare xmare

What does Lina do?

Says whatever she must to make them leave

"But the shoes!"

"Goodness, she can keep them for all I care! Now get OFF MY PHONE!"

The phone paused for a moment, "Good! I can work with that!" The screen went black.

Lina woke the phone, warily. Thankfully, there was no sign of whatever was controlling her phone. Brandishing her phone like a weapon, she looked around as if something were in her room. She sat down again to question her sanity.

It’s a new day. Lina's 7am alarm sounded and she rolled reluctantly out of bed. She made her bed neatly, before she brushed and flossed her teeth. She assembled her usual study wear - a black, long skirt and a white blouse and black jumper and paired it with her beige 1 inch pumps. A bit preppy, but modest.

As she left her room she came across the couch, adorned with a snoring sister, still in her little black dress and Lina's shoes from the night before. She took a moment to wish her sister would dress a bit more like her, which would perhaps attract a better crowd. She found a blanket from her room and covered her sister before she hurried off to her first lecture, unintentionally slamming the door on her way out.

Mia woke with a start. "Ohgod, what was that?!" The room span still as she sat upright. She looked down at the blanket and wondered where it came from. She brushed down her dress and straightened it back over her thighs and put her dress's shoulder back in place.

Her biggest source of discomfort, though, was the shoes that she'd somehow forgotten to take off since the previous night. She tugged at themso she could relax her feet and go back to sleep, yet they wouldn't budge.

“Agh; are you kidding me?!”

She tried carefully at first, but soon she had thrown caution to the wind and was yanking at them with all her might. Something, somehow, was holding them on her feet. She couldn't see any obvious sticky points, but they simply wouldn't budge. She wondered if her feet had swollen, or if the glue in the shoes had melted.

She calmed down and remembered how Lina would react if she'd broken her shoes. She kept working at them, trying to wriggle them off, for some time, until an enthusiastic voice made her jump.

"Mia!" The muffled male voice came from beneath her. "Care to apologise for stealing your sister's shoes? And yes, she did this to you."

Mia put her hand under her to search for her phone. “Who the hell are you? Did you put glue in these shoes?”

She waited for a response, nervously wondering if this was normal behavior at college, "I'll call the police!"

Mia waited even longer. Eventually she gave up and yelled, "Fuck you and your stupid prank!" She locked the phone and dropped it on the couch next to her.

The phone buzzed. Mia looked and saw a blank screen with some italic writing, "All you have to do is apologise!"

Looking for a hangover cure, and to get to somewhere more public where a potential stalker can't get to her, she walked to the nearest café, a few blocks away. As she walked, she worked herself into an anger, wondering why Lina and her friends would organise such an annoying and potentially dangerous prank. She didn't want to play a game, so she just wanted somewhere public enough that Lina's creeps couldn't harass her.

Her shoes remained uncomfortably tight as she made her way to the café. By the time she arrived at the café she checked her phone. It still read, "All you have to do is apologise!"

Does she apologise?
