Saved By the Teacher

"Come on, Jane, let's go," you say, standing between Pamela and her.

"Oo-ooo, you gonna have your boyfriend protect you?" Pamela says, mockingly.

"No. I don't need anyone to protect me," Jane says, pushing you to the side. She balls up her fist, ready to strike the other girl, if she needs to ... but doesn't have to, as Mr. Clark returns suddenly.

"Class is over, you three. Please, leave," the man says, click-clacking in his heels over to his desk. Without even realizing it, he had just stopped what might have been a very dangerous situation from ever really getting started.

"You're off the hook for now, Jane," Pamela says seethingly, walking by both of you. "But this isn't over. I'm going to make sure everyone knows how much of a boy you are." Then she leaves the classroom.

Jane turns towards you and you say "Sorry. I didn't mean to make things worse. I was worried about you, that's all."

"Don't worry about it, John. I'm glad you tried to help. It just means you love me all the more. Pamela's just a jerk. She'll always find some reason to bully and berate me. Now come on. We've got to get to our next class."
