Chapter 4 by H0rnyBuNnY H0rnyBuNnY

Where do you go?

Room 112 (M)

As you open the door a brilliantly bright light slowly washes over you then suddenly disappears. You look around and see walls made of sandstone, a wooden counter, a beaded doorway behind that counter, and every corner of the room littered with piles of colourful rugs and antique jugs. Looking at yourself you see that you're dressed in ugly brown robes that look and feel like they are actually made of burlap sacks cobbled together. Your hair on the other hand looks stylish as it is spiked upward and gives off almost a warrior look. Suddenly you hear a rustle as a man in dark blue robes walks out from the doorway behind the counter.

"Ah, you must be the new assistant that I hired. Welcome!" the man says as he closes and puts away a book.

The man appears to have bronze coloured skin, hazel eyes, and what looks like hazel coloured hair which he seems to have dyed to match his eyes.

"My name is Halil, but I'd prefer either Sir Halil or Hal. Your choice." Halil says winking and giving you a smile. "You don't have to worry about introducing yourself, I already read about you Michael."

"Oh ok." you say as he hastily moves around items throughout the room.

"Now, I did have to open early today so I'll try and teach you the basics as fast as possible. Firstly, sometimes I get busy and can't deal with all the customers that come into my shop. When that happens I need you to go up to a customer in need, say 'Hello, and welcome to Hal's Fast'n'Ready Magicks. How can I enchant your world today?', and assist them with whatever they require." Halil explains.

'Wait, I'm working in a magic shop?' you think to yourself.

"Secondly, a lot of the products such as potions and charms tend to either not perform their intended function, or sometimes work too effectively. Every once and a while you'll get a customer who will want a demonstration to see if it works. Now while it would help sell the product if you did do a demonstration, that would entirely be your choice. Especially since some products can have long-lasting effects." Halil says nonchalantly.

"Wait what?" you ask a bit worried.

"Thirdly, there is the custom spells I'm working on." Halil say almost ignoring you.

As he continues to ramble on about your duties he guides you to the room behind the counter from where he originally came from. You realize the room you were just in must have been more of a waiting room as you enter what is clearly the rest of the stop. Shelves upon shelves of magical books, potions, charms, talismans, ingredients, nick knacks, etc. At the end of the room you see stairs that lead up to a second floor. You assume that must either be Halil's living quarters or where he makes most of his products.

"I have a lot of spells that I'm trying to either recreate or make from scratch, but I need someone to test them on." Halil continues. "They mainly deal with transformation and can be canceled almost immediately. During a rare occurrence where it lasts for multiple months or ends up being permanent, it will most likely be harmless anyway."

That last comment makes you a bit uneasy.

"Lastly, I need you to keep an eye out for Murkahs. They're rumored to have been spotted in the area and I don't want to have to look for a new assistant already." Halil says.

"What are Murkahs?" you ask.

"Murkahs are a race of blue-skinned slavers with magical abilities." Halil explains. "They like to travel across the world in packs to find people they deem attractive enough, kidnap them, warp their body and mind with transforming magic, and enslave them. They can change their skin colour to mimic others and tend to look for prey at magical locations to prove that the Murkah form of magic is superior."

"And that would include magic shops?" you ask to clarify.

"Especially mine, since I deal with a lot of transforming magic myself. So keep an eye out, there may be some Murkahs posing as customers from time to time." Halil says in a serious tone. "If you do spot one either avoid as much contact as possible, or come get me immediately. I've dealt with them before and can send one away when need be. Got it?"

"Got it!" you answer back confidently.

"Ok, then get to work Michael." Halil says.

What do you need to help with first?
