Rocks, Trees... Looks Pretty Normal

You look through the periscope at the surface. You see rocks, trees, undergrowth. It looks like a pretty typical autumn day in the mountains. The aspens are turning gold so it's actually really beautiful. {if Horny >= 60} It looks like a great day for a scenic hike. {endif} There's no sign of any danger... But then again, this is a very isolated area. {if Worry >= 60} Who knows what could be waiting for you just out of sight.{endif}

You catch a glimpse of the solar-panel-covered roofs of Uncle Leroy's main compound. The place looks vacant and untouched. The fence is intact, there are no people or vehicles in sight... Everything seems to be in order. But of course, the trees obscure a lot of the compound from here.

You'll need more than a periscope to determine what's really going on out there. You could go outside yourself, leaving the shelter of the bunker. Or you could try something safer. There's the TV in one corner, still in its box. If you hook it up the bunker's antenna should be able to pick up any broadcasts in your area. There's also an old short-wave radio sitting on the kitchen counter next to the can opener. Switching it on could give you some insight as well.
