Rocketgirl meets Madame Veil

Rocketgirl was out on patrol. The silver costumed heroine ran short sprints between the darkened streets of the town looking for signs of trouble. She found that if she patrolled the same area several times criminals seemed to get the message and stayed away. She would then move onto another area after several days or a week and start patrolling there. Rocketgirl also wore a police scanner on her utility belt to give a heads up of crime. The night was quiet so far, with not even a petty criminal, when the police scanner crackled to life. So much for a peaceful night Rocketgirl thought as she listened to the call. There was an alarm at Sparkling Jewelers. Rocketgirl knew the place, it was in the area she was patrolling. Due to her location and speed she could get there before the police could, and hopefully before whomever was robbing the place escaped.

Arriving at the jewelry store, Rocketgirl quickly ran a lap around the structure and surveyed it. She quickly noted that the front window had been smashed wide open. A quick snatch and grab probably common thugs, the heroine thought as she stepped carefully over the broken glass. As she stepped inside all activity stopped. Rocketgirl found herself looking at three men and a woman. All of the men wore black jeans, black shirts and black masks, the woman was out of place though. Rocketgirl recognized her, her name was Madame Veil, she was a wealthy old socialite whom everyone questioned where her money came from. As Rocketgirl looked at Veil she thought that she may have just discovered the woman’s source of wealth, she ran a crime ring. Madame Veil was in her early sixties with graying hair, she was wearing a long purple dress and black gloves, she also had a large red ruby in her forhead. Rocketgirl found the ruby to be odd, but thought it was a sign of the woman wanting to draw attention to herself.

“Stop staring and get rid of her.” Madame Veil yelled to her goons. She then started to grab some of the bags that were probably filled with jewelry.

The three men advanced on Rocketgirl. The first took a swing at the heroine who easily dodged the punch. Rocketgirl responded by delivering an elbow to the man’s chest and causing him to stagger back. A second tried to grab the heroine and was able to get a partial grip on Rocketgirl before she could move. The heroine responded by stomping the man’s foot which caused him to lose his grip. Rocketgirl then turned to the advancing third man. Using her speed she ran around him, punching and kicking him from several directions while he was unable to react fast enough. The man collapsed to the ground clutching his chest.

The first two men had recovered and were now standing wearily facing Rocketgirl. Neither appeared to want to attack knowing she would probably evade it. Behind them Madame Veil appeared to be heading for an exit. Rocketgirl ran past both men so fast they felt a rush of wind as she ran in front of Madame Veil and cut her off. The heroine stood in front of Madame Veil eying the old woman. Rocketgirl felt confident that Veil was not a threat.

What Rocketgirl did not know is that the ruby in Madame Veil’s forehead was for more than just looks. The ruby could shoot energy bolts and beams, and could also attack a person’s mind.

“Good help is hard to find these days.” Madame Veil said as she put down the bags and faced off with Rocketgirl.
