Robin takes out an enemy, but an agent lands a lucky shot

Robin rushed toward her target. As she drew closer, she could see his masked face in the fading light of the flare-- she had been following one of her tracking flares, she knew it! The cover of the mask stopped her from seeing his expression as Robin barreled down on him, rapier poised to deliver her strike. She thrust forward, stopping just short of the man's face and releasing a point blank blast of **** magic, essentially slamming an invisible barrier into his face. Despite the meager protection of his mask, the man went down without another moment of resistance, ****-- his life spared by Robin's naive heroic aspirations.

Robin's victory was short lived, however, for when she turned to look for her next target, ready to conjure another round of flares, she noticed a faint pain in the back of her neck-- a tiny pinprick which could have easily gone unnoticed in the heat of battle. She reached back and pulled out a dart.... but how? Her barrier should have stopped any incoming attacks-- had she made a mistake? Had the barrier been dispelled?

Robin looked around wildly for the source of the dart, but already her vision was starting to get blurry. Her steps became dizzy, more of a drunken stumble than her elegant, well rehearsed graceful movement. As she started to fade, her barrier flickered, once, twice, then vanished, leaving Robin fully exposed to the remaining attackers. She had gotten one, but only defeating one enemy when so overwhelmingly outnumbered was nowhere near enough. Her eyelids fell, arms heavier than anvils as Robin toppled forward into the dirt.
