Christ. Well, that could have gone better.

That was the first serious punch to the face I’ve ever taken. I ice my cheekbone in front of the open refrigerator, counting my blessings that the dude didn’t have a weapon. I need to be more careful if I am going to keep playing with fire. A twisted grin creeps wide.

I find myself wishing I had some fruit to snack on, but the only thing I have are some moldy strawberries. I throw them out and spend some time cleaning the apartment. The work distracts me from thinking about money for a while, but eventually I take a deep sigh look over my finances again.

The rent and included utilities are due next weekend. That will be $1,500 worth of damage to my account I’d better be ready for.

The good news is that my weekly paycheck has been automatically deposited. It’s the usual $800, but I expect next week’s check to be a little smaller due to the half-day I worked when Victoria sent me home early. How much does she make? Four or five times more than me? Wouldn’t that be nice.

The bad news is my $150 phone bill is due. I pay it, putting my current funds at ${Money}.

{if Money > 3000}I have enough in the account to survive a couple months, so I feel confident that I’ll have enough time to get a similarly paying position before then. I can stop worrying about money, and maybe even have some fun while getting ****.

{elseif Money > 1500}I’ve already got this month’s rent covered with my current balance, so between what Rachel owes me and next week’s paycheck, I will be close to next month’s rent as well. I should keep an eye on my spending, but I don’t feel as stressed as I did last week.

{elseif Money > 1000}I shouldn’t have a problem paying rent this month, but next month is still a big question mark. I had better stay on my toes at work to last at least another couple weeks.

{elseif Money > 750}If I keep my spending down this week, and don’t get fired just yet, then the between what Rachel owes me and next week’s pay, I should squeak through the next month, but I’ve got so little wiggle room that the thought of losing the job now is still stressing me out. I can't lose this job yet!

{endif}

My fruit craving comes back and I think about my empty refrigerator. I will need to get groceries tomorrow after work. That will be another $50-$100 depending on my nutritional choices.

Even more bad news is that my gym membership is due as well. That’s another $50. The gym was so crowded last time that getting a good workout was a challenge. Should I just cancel the membership for now? Maybe I could should use that time for other things for the short term anyway...
