Rest for a moment

Janno wondered if the two remaining thieves would go back to alert others or do as Caroline suggested. He couldn't be sure of what **** was under Miko, but he guessed it wasn't large. At the same time, caution would be prudent. Just because they survived one battle didn't mean they would survive another.

"I think we need to catch our breath for a moment," Janno said. "But, not for long. We have only so much of daylight left and I'd rather not go stumbling after them in the dark. Make sure, we have everything taken care off and..." At this, he paused.

"What is wrong?" Rosella asked.

Janno realized something. "What happened to the person they were waylaying when we ran across them?"

Recognition dawned on some faces and they quickly started to look around. It wasn't long before tracks were discovered. Janno didn't recognize the tracks when found. They didn't look human.

Silos came up and exclaimed, "Goblin! These are goblin tracks! Miko and his band must of be going after a lone goblin and it slipped away when we rushed in on the scene."

Caroline frowned. "This may change things. A goblin alone doesn't sound common. More likely, there are a band of goblins nearby, perhaps of whole lair of them."

"But, why would Miko go after a goblin if there were?" Rosella asked. "Surely, he would know that he would face retribution for that."

"I'm not so sure," Janno responded. "He sounded confident he could take us and found out that he was wrong. The last mistake he would ever make. Still, goblins nearby. It could be one who has gone too far. If not, then he's making straight back toward his fellow demi-human clan."

"We may need to beat the thieves and goblins to the tower then," Caroline said.

"We need to watch after thieves and goblins then," Gloria countered.

Janno grimaced. Their current situation could be more dangerous than originally thought.
