Reflect on how all this began...

You take a moment to think about how you got into this awful situation...

It started with a letter. This particular letter came from the executors of your uncle's will. Alvin Doe always was a bit strange, even by your family's standards. You remember meeting him once, when you were a young boy. He was kindly enough, but looked much older than his years, and there was something disturbing about the way he looked about him - as if some dark and terrible secret haunted him.

Uncle Alvin died suddenly last month, leaving behind a small estate which was divided up among various aunts, uncles, cousins and other distant relatives. He never married - you once overheard your parents suggesting that he preferred the company of men over women - and lived by himself in some far corner of Eastern Europe. The letter explained that your uncle had left you a carved rosewood box, which you received today in the mail. You took the box up to your room and set it on your desk. Looking carefully all over it, it seemed to be a normal wooden box with a hinged lid. No secret compartments. You shook it, and heard something rattle around inside. Curious to see what was in it, you unlatched the lid and swung it open.

The inside of the box had an inscription carved into the top of the lid: "HE WHO COMES SHALL BE CONSUMED BUT THE ONE WHO STAYS PURE SHALL GAIN RICHES". As you read the final words, you felt the room start to spin, and then your vision faded to black...

And now you're stuck in Kyris's realm, possibly for all eternity. Just great. Unless that red portal can lead you to freedom.
