Rapid response

You’re surprised when the phone rings only a couple hours later. When you answer, a professional sounding male voice greets you. “Hello Mr Evans! My name is Douglas, and I’m a representative for the AWIO. We just finished processing your application to our traveler program, and I’m calling to let you know that you’ve been approved! We can begin the transition process whenever you’re available. How soon would you like to begin?”

You’re surprised, not just by the enthusiasm, but by the speed this has happened. “Oh! I didn’t expect to hear back so soon. I…I suppose we can start any time. I don’t really have anything going on, and I’m free to start whenever. Oh, and if it’s ok, you can just call me Greg, I’m not big on formality.”

“Oh, of course Greg, whatever you prefer. Would you be willing to come down to our offices today? Depending on how much training you require, we could get you on your way very soon.”

You think for a moment. No reason to hold back really. If you’re going to do this, you might as well dive right in! “Of course! I’ll head right there. It should take about an hour to get there.”

“Wonderful! To answer your unspoken question, you were approved quickly for several reasons. You’re skilled at working with your hands, and you have no record of substance ****, along with your age being a factor. We tend to be hesitant to approve younger applicants because this is such a major and irreversible decision. All things considered, you’re an ideal candidate.”

You chuckle. “It’s nice to be exceptional for once. All right, I’ll be there soon.”

You hang up the phone and take a deep breath. A new life in a new world, magic and monsters! You haven’t been this excited since you graduated high school.
