Blake Belladonna the beauty on the run from her past and a cat faunus dreaming of a better future for her kind. A stand-offish quiet woman hiding her nature wielding a automatic pistol and blade that could function as kusagari. Her reclusive nature and trust issues are a issue as she'll keep a problem under wraps until the cat leaps out of the bag on its own.

Weiss Schnee the Heiress, free from the gilded cage of her father's clutches. A determined woman striving to retrace her grand-fathers steps to escape her father's shadow and untarnished the reputation of her families conglomerate. Fresh out of the posh realm of high-society she has the ice-queen snootiness which will be melted away by her friends.

Yang Xiao Long the fiery pun loving older sister of Ruby. She embodied the bombshell blonde with a temper and power to blow way most opponents using her shotgun gauntlets. That temper can get her into trouble as she acts rashly and relies on her power to pull her out of it.

They were hunter or rather huntresses in training attending a university for the hunting profession on a world named Remnant; that could be charitably described as a **** world. The world had two sapient races, humans and Faunus, a race that may be a human offshoot that possessed one major feature from the animal kingdom, from cat ears, functional bat wings and spider webs to a scorpions tail with deadly poison along with other benefits.

The chosen profession of the heroines centered around fighting creatures known as Grimm which held a mysterious hatred for humans, Faunus and anything remotely created by their hands. These beasts that seemed made of shadow solidified into mythic beasts or simply abominable beasts with their burning hate had compressed human and faunus centers of civilization into four kingdoms with their heartlands located in the most defensible locations in the world. While other cities exist, outside the heartlands you'll only find small villages and towns dotting the world outside other defensible locations.

A fifth lesser 'kingdom' was Menagerie, based on the island in the bottom right corner was a kingdom created as a condition after the 'great war' or a world war as part of the peace agreement, a homeland for the Faunus. As in the kingdoms they often faced derision and racism which had lead to a great rebellion later on.

From that rebellion rose a faction, the White Fang a rights organization turned terrorist in their pursues as goals twisted with time and resentment.

Hunters and huntresses like the heroines kept the destructive forces of the Grimm at bay with the light of their souls known as Aura that protects and strengthens them beyond any human limits, paired with the possible expression of it in unique semblances as they wielded weapons forged and powered by Dust a mineral that possessing elemental properties that fueled society.

Beyond the walls and heartlands, hunters would roam the world helping the scatter settlements and towns that scrapped by against the Grimm, or even against bandits and tribes that raided them or extorted them.

This is a world of danger, where one had to watch your back. Be it from Faunus, Human or Grimm. Yet it was also the chessboard and of a long running match between a grimm controlling witch Salem and the reincarnating wizard, Ozpin in his latest incarnation...

Really thinking on it, the obvious part of choosing an alternate version is selecting a starting seed, setting up preexisting relationships or really large changes you wanted to have to play around with from the start. You weren't constrained by your initial ideas, with the notebook you could make it up as you go along.
