Chapter 13

What can you do?
Try to remember any other hints from the book
Trying to remember the back to the entrance in the book on the demons, you remember a little paragraph close to the beginning of the section. It read:
“The most powerful demons are those of the strongest emotions, love and hate. Next in strength are demons of pride and lust, who are themselves followed closely in strength by demons of despair, anger, greed and terror (though this only exists briefly). Lesser demons also exist, such as those of fear. However they are weak and very rare to make an appearance, as people are only rarely consumed by fear. “
The demon you just saw was one of anger, apparently one of the lower tier of demons. This revelation did nothing to fill your heart with hope, as a number of even stronger demons exist that could tear you to pieces. You really need to find a way to protect yourself.
With a renewed determination you again think back hard to the book.
“Demons were one of the most dangerous enemies you can encounter. The easiest way to fight one is by using a demon of your own. This has the added bonus of removing the summoner from the fight, further increasing their odds of survival.”
The book then goes on to talk about demonic possession and the ways it can occur:
“If a person has been so consumed by and emotion they summon a demon, there is a chance for that demon to overtake their bodies. Such possession occurs when the person’s emotion extends to the demon as well as its original target. Demons generally want this to happen, so to increase their chances of being able to possess a person, they take form as an image from the person’s heart that is designed to provoke their specific emotion. For example a lust demon will take form in that of the person’s deepest fantasy.”
It seems that summoning a demon is more trouble than it’s worth. Though it may be a simple method to combat other demons and therefore ensure your own survival, the thoughts of a demonic possession do not appeal to you.
Do you want to continue attempting to remember the book, or do you want to search around for other clues?
What is your next move?
