Zack and Ashley were examining some maps.

“So, House McRose is over here, all the way over by this big river.” Zack pointed.

There was a knock on the door, and Zack and Ashley both startled.

“Come in!” Ashley called. The door opened and in walked Sarah, who was Hannah and Ashley’s mom. “The two of you are together, aren’t you?” Sarah questioned. Zack and Ashley exchanged quick looks.

“That’s wonderful. I’m so happy for both of you. Ashley, I’ll stop trying to push you towards Lady Gabriella’s son. You’ve found yourself a great man as it is.” Sarah congratulated her daughter.

“Thank you, mother.” Ashley said politely.

“It’s no problem. Zack, I do hope that you’ll consider a marriage proposal. Both you and my daughter are twenty years of age, and it’s high time you settle down.” Sarah said. Marriage? Seriously?

“Of course I’ll consider it.” Zack lied smoothly. Sarah smiled broadly. She touched Zack’s cheek.

“I do hope that one day, I will be able to call you my son.” Sarah smiled, and then she left.

“Wow. Why’s she so marriage crazy?” Ashley blinked.

“I think that’s how the medieval ages were. People tried to marry off their daughters as soon as possible, because the younger and prettier their daughters were, the easier it would be for them to marry into money.” Zack said.

“Did you just call me young and pretty?” Ashley smiled.

“Um... maybe.” Zack admitted weakly. Ashley laughed.

“Alright, c’mon. We should go find Chloe.” Ashley invited. Zack nodded.

Zack and Ashley rode towards House McRose in the carriage from House Bishop, but like Ashley had said, they wound up heading straight through a town.

“Lord Zachary. Please come out of the carriage.” the carriage driver said, but he didn’t sound scared or worried or anything.

Zack pushed open the door of the carriage and saw that a lovely young woman was standing there, another carriage behind her.

“Lady Jessalyn.” Zack greeted her. He knew her vaguely from school, which was fortuitous, because it would have looked suspicious if he couldn’t remember her name.

“Of course.” Zack nodded. Jessalyn led him around the other side of her carriage, out of sight and earshot from Ashley.

“I hope you have an explanation for why a daughter of House Woodsen is in your carriage.” Jessalyn said, clearly angry.

“Um... I’m confused. Why are you angry at me?” Zack asked. Jessalyn looked thunderstruck.

“Why am I angry at you? Zachary, I am your lover and the mother of your unborn child. I believe that I have a right to know what you are doing with Ashley.” Jessalyn said in disbelief.
