Chapter 18

Kayla goes to clear the table
Seeing that Brian, the bar manager for the night, was also eyeing up the table Kayla struck out defiantly to claim it herself. All urgency drained from her once she got there, carefully removing the glasses and wiping down the surface, giving her plenty of time to eavesdrop on Jason and his date. Not that the conversation was exactly flowing...
"You know, when you asked to meet up I was expecting you to put a bit more effort in - both with the location and trying to hold some sort of a conversation" said the woman, breaking the silence.
Jason breathed in deeply. He knew far more about his date than he'd led on and had decided before she turned up how he was going to play he. He'd just had to wait for the right moment and everything would fall into place.
"You know, I reckon you get more than enough wining and dining and high brow conversation with your husband and his friends" Jason paused to allow the revelation he knew she was married sink in "I mean seriously, all your pictures on Tinder show you with your wedding ring and you were hardly a challenge to track down on social media. I know and you know that you're here for one thing and one thing only. Now my advice is that you go up to the bar and order us a round of Jaeger bombs, because when you wake up tomorrow morning you're going to want to blame the **** for things I'm going to do to you tonight. Oh, and don't forget to put them on hubby darling's credit card"
Kayla watched studied Jason's date's reaction with interest. First she looked like she was about to explode, then she seemed on the verge of slapping Jason before a grin appeared on her face as she got up and went to the bar as instructed. Jason winked at Kayla, playfully knowing that he knew she'd been listening in to the conversation.
Embarrassed to have been caught out, Kayla slowly made her way back to the bar where Brian was in the process of preparing four Jaeger bombs. "Looks like it's going to be a quiet night, do you want an early finish - you look dead on your feet" he told her.
As much as Kayla hated being told she told looked knackered she felt it - sometimes the quiet nights behind the bar were the most tiring. Plus, if she hurried home she might get the chance to see Stuart before he turned in for the night. Not waiting for Brian to change his mind she quickly gathered up her things and headed home.
But when she got in she found Stuart already dead to the world. After her regular end of the day stretches Kayla climbed into bed beside her sleeping boyfriend, closed her eyes and allowed sleep to take her over. But if she thought she was going to get a peaceful night's sleep she was sadly mistaken.
