Chapter 3 by BoredDreamer BoredDreamer

Babe? You're kidding!

Nah! Babe: His Personal Computer; Rules & Test

Performance and stability.

That’s the attribute Arvin came up with.

Easy and simple.

He had thought about idiotic attributes such as ‘best’ or ‘greatest,’ but those might do nothing.

What does best mean? Best of what? Best might not represent the best computer in the universe.

In the end, this attribute might be useless or even break his prized babe.

Or he could try “the best computer of the universe.”

So when he touched his prized babe, there was no green highlight.

Hmm? How about performance and stability?

Still nothing, Arvin suddenly realized something.

How about only performance?

The green hue suddenly returned, highlighting his babe.

Arvin suddenly realized something and wrote on a paper.

Rule-1: The green hue is the indicator for feasible modification.
Rule-2: Modification is limited to a single word.

For the next rule, Arvin added [Performance +1] on his PC and tried to add another [+1] on the performance, but neither did it work, nor did the green hue made its appearance.

He touched the table with the thought of making it newer.

The green hue returned.

“Ok, so it’s not limited to three uses, probably even unlimited before I can’t use it anymore. But this [+1] is too negligent.”

After all, the difference brought by the [+1] was hardly noteworthy.

Taking a piece of paper, he turned off the light and added [Glow +1] to the paper.

Arvin checked the timer, and it took around four minutes when the intensity of the glowing stopped increasing. Even then, the white glow was faint and barely notable.

He tore the paper, and the attribute appeared on both the pieces.

With a comprehensive look on his face, he tried to minus the glow.

The [Glow +1] attribute disappeared as the paper returned to being a regular piece of paper in a minute.

Arvin tried to add another attribute to that piece, but nothing worked.

Another small test on the table said he hadn’t lost the modifying ability.

Arvin stopped his urge to add another rule before checking his online balance and going to sleep.

...

Next Morning

The first thing Arvin did was to get a hold of the two papers and adding modifiers.

[Divinity +1] on the normal paper and an increment on [Glow +1].

[Divinity +1]
[Glow +2]

“...ok,” Arvin wiped his eyes.

Before he forgot the idea, he fished out the Rulebook and added:

Rule-3: Modifier is limited to ±1 once a day.
Rule-4: Modifying increment possible.

Thinking again, he tried to add [Stable +1] on his PC.

Rule-5: Multiple Modifiers possible. [Tested Limit: 2]

His prized babe needed some stability along with performance too, right?

And last but not least, he removed the Divinity attribute, praying, “Oh, the great gud, please ignore this tiny existence,” he headed off to the washroom.

Assign Divinity attribute to a random paper and leave it be?

He feared that an untimely plumber might knock on his door!

This was something he came up with after tossing and turning half of the night.

If this ability was a Superpower, the possibility of him being the first was non-existent!

If someone or something dangerous got into his room by following that [Divinity +1] paper, they might not stop until killing every one of his family members.

He logged into his forum, resolved some reports, put on his snickers, and went for the way to the pond.

Noticing the lack of any suspicious activity, he hesitated for a moment before adding another point to the clean attribute.

This will be his test ground for confirming the existence of the supernatural world.

Of course, he wasn’t going to seek ways to die actively.

Now that he confirmed most of the necessary tests, Arvin thought he should study the intermediate level of this [Modifier] ability.

What about this intermediate level?

Of course, that’s the use of [Modifier] on living beings.

...

Arvin had already confirmed the feasibility of adding modifying living being with the green hue last night. While he was eager to add some superpower to himself, he wasn’t as foolish as his 12 years old self.

He sat in his veranda with five small ant cages in front of him.

Two-five ants moved on each of them.

All of them being black ants he found around the pond.

Since he lacked a camera, he ordered one and substituted it with his webcam for the time being.

The ants of the five cages had five different attributes.

[Solenopsis +1]; the scientific name of red ants or also called fire ants. The scientific name was used for the apparent reason of being one word. An experiment to test mutation.

[Big +1]; naturally, to see whether living beings can get bigger.

[Large +1]; of course, to check the difference between Big and Large.

[Intelligence +1]; something he considered safe and adding to himself.

[Snake +1]; the feasibility of something possibly (?) outrageous.

With all these, Arvin locked this glass cage and went to his university.

Uni? Don't We Have Something More Pressing?
