The smaller one

Well this was a surprise. James got the feeling the smaller canine was under the protection the the larger, or something to that effect anyways. He doubted the larger female would have let this one out of her sight, yet here she was. Likely she was drawn here by the smell of food, but then where was the other one? Behind the smaller one? He doubted that too. Still, this was probably the best outcome.

This one had seemed at least somewhat receptive to him earlier, when she reached for the pizza. Maybe if James could win her over, it would help with the other one. Before that though, it was getting a little nerve-wracking just calling them 'this one and 'the other one' or calling them 'the large one' and 'the small one'. They needed names, at least in his own mind, for the sake of simplicity if nothing else.

Let's see now, as before, she did seem to have a husky look about her. When James only saw the head, like now, he might actually mistake her for a regular canine... Until he looked at her eyes. Okay so, it's not like he ever really looked closely at a dogs eyes before so it's not like he knew how they should look, but it didn't seem likely they looked exactly like human eyes. He could be completely wrong though.

As James stared into her eyes, she stared right back into his. He actually loved her eyes, a gorgeous Jade color. Actually, that works out perfectly, Jade. Not being able to help himself, he whispered the name as they gazed into one anothers eyes, "Jade..."
