SupraNormals (An In-Depth Guide To The Superhumans of The Apex Universe)

The Various Types of Super Humans are collectively known as SupraNormals (Sometimes spelled "Supra-Normal"). They are considered to exist in a state beyond being Human. A Being whose Basic Capabilities so Radically Exceed those of Present-Era Humanity so as to be no longer unambiguously Human by Current Prevailing Standards.

SupraNormals are marked by Para-Psychological Abilities, Flight, Impossible Strength, and/or some other Exceptional Proficiency Beyond Human Capabilities. Their Super Human Abilities can be the result of Natural/Artificial Genetic Modification, Cybernetic Implants, Nanotechnology, Selective Breeding, Chemical Enhancement, Radiation, Mutagenic Catalysts, Etc.

The Abilities of SupraNormals vary from individual to individual, and no two powers are exactly alike; although certain superpowers such as Super Strength and Super Speed are not uncommon, and many SupraNormals develop other abilities as an extension of their existing powers, either because of experience and honing their talents, or through further enhancements to their powers and biology. Also it is not uncommon for SupraNormals to possess powers uniquely their own which even their offspring cannot inherit.

At Different Times and in Different Places in Earth's History in The Apex Universe there have been Dozens of Different Types of Superhumans that have walked along side Humanity.

Human Scientists Discovered The Super Human Phenomenon Centuries Ago and suspected it long before but now Science has finally managed to gain ground regarding this Phenomenon and have Developed Detronal Scanners, Handheld Devices which can Read and Interpret The Genetic Structure of Living Tissue painlessly from a distance using a Surgical-Quality Liquid Electron Hypodermic Scanning Laser that can extract The Relevant DNA Molecules from a suspect with a beam of modulated light. Certain Human Agencies make use of these Scanners to track down Rogue SupraNormals which they then Imprison or Eliminate.

Even in a Recessive or Dormant State, SupraNormal Genes are constantly instructing various cells in the body to produce a series of Proteins and Enzymes that interact with The Skin, The Nervous System and The Brain which is noticeable through various methods such as an M.R.I. (Magnetic Resonance Imaging) to Detect Micro-Anatomical Brain Anomalies, Galvanic Impulse Tests, Infrared Signature Comparison but The Most used and Most Reliable Means are Genetic Testing for Specific Genetic Markers, Neurochemical Profiling, and EEG Analysis.

Now I imagine you're wondering since most of Humanity at this point in time is Genetically-Engineered to some extent why don't all Humans fall under this label and I know that if I were you I would be wondering that to but the answer is really quite simple. The Engineering that Humans receive at birth in the current iteration of Human Society is considered "Corrective" not Augmentative. Sure Humans are now stronger, faster, and smarter with longer lives and a greater resistance to disease and injury but the abilities they possess are not really Superhuman, merely an elevation towards what a person could achieve with enough effort and hard work not an outright cheat as some would call the abilities of Mutants and MetaHumans which often include abilities that no Human could attain with any amount of effort or study such as the ability to fly or to shatter steel with energy from their hands or eyes or any of a thousand other potentially dangerous abilities.

The Gift of Genetic-Engineering given to every Modern Human, barring any abnormality that will block the acceptance of The Enhanced DNA, is meant to start everyone on as even a playing field as possible and allow them to make the best and earliest possible use of their abilities to hopefully help elevate Humanity toward the peace and tranquility it aspires to.

What began as a trickle has become worrying to The Governments of The World. Recently, The Rise in SupraNormal Births over The Last Century has lead to concern in The Scientific Community at large which has lead to increased Fear and Hate for those exhibiting considerable Above Normal or Extra-Human Abilities.

Many People harbor prejudicial attitudes about SupraNormals. They do so for a variety of reasons, including Bigotry and Xenophobia (Particularly directed at those SupraNormals with Nonstandard Appearances), Jealousy of their Natural Super Powers, and Fear of Being replaced or rendered extinct by the so-called "Next Stage of Human Evolution." This Anti-SupraNormal Sentiment often leads to mob **** and The Alienation of SupraNormals from the rest of Society.

Peaceful Human-SupraNormal Co-Existence seems unlikely as many people both fear and detest them, Their Safety, Well-Being, and Their Very Lives are jeopardized on an Almost Daily Basis. SupraNormal Extremists and Human Supremacists, Like "The Friends of Humanity," which is perhaps the best known and most infamous of Anti-SupraNormal Hate Groups are famous for their Bigotry against SupraNormals of all types, excessively violent in their opposition against SupraNormal Rights and their constant scheming to discredit SupraNormal Heroes and to **** lawmakers to implement harsher laws involving SupraNormals is a constant bane to The Majority of The SupraNormal Population who just want to Live and Work and Love just like anyone else. Not alot to ask for really.

These Fanatical Anti-SupraNormal Movements have even been known to attack other Humans who they suspect of being SupraNormal Sympathizers, stirring up Anti-SupraNormal Hysteria, fanning the flames of Rampant Anti-SupraNormal Sentiment, supporting SupraNormal Exploitation, and funding a number of Organized Anti-SupraNormal Campaigns throughout The Union and The AEU.

The Fear and resulting Paranoia of The Baseline Human Species has led to the introduction of Proposition X, Draconian Anti-SupraNormal Rights Legislature Designed and Spearheaded by Staunch Anti-SupraNormal Politician Simon Trask. This controversial Legislature if passed will impact SupraNormal Reproductive Rights, requiring all SupraNormal-Gene Positive Humans (Past or Present; Powered or De-Powered) to undergo Mandatory Chemical Birth Control Procedures while denying them Marriage Rights, in an effort to regulate SupraNormal Breeding. Trask's entire platform is built on dealing with the so-called SupraNormal Menace in its entirety and on Passing more Restrictive or Draconian Mutant and Superhuman Legislation.

Proposition X is considered by many to be the natural evolution of The Super-Human Registration Act which is itself an amendment to The Mutant Registration and Control Act, a legislative piece demanding mandatory registration of all Mutants.

The Mutant Registration Act and The Super Human Registration Act (SRA, S.R.A. or sometimes SHRA) 6 U.S.C, § 558 are Highly Controversial Multi-Jurisdictional Legislative Bills (HR 421) which were passed into law in The United States, enforcing The Mandatory Registration of Super-Powered Individuals with The Government. Supporters and Critics have hotly debated between the rights of the individual (to freedom of action and expression, etc.) on one side versus the rights of society at large (to safety from danger or harm) on the other.

As their names suggest The Mutant Registration Act pertains only to Mutants while The Super-human Registration Act takes the form of an umbrella meant to deal with all other Non-Mutant Super-Powered Individuals especially those Powered Individuals who wield abilities with Massively Destructive Potential.

These Bills require that Super-Powered Individuals surrender their real names to The Government (but not The Public). This obviously entails The Loss of their Secret Identities. It enables The Government to Monitor All Powered Individuals and is Drafted to facilitate The Government's Licensing and/or Employment of Individuals who are actively using their powers. The Powered Individuals must fulfill certain requirements or criteria before they are allowed to fully use their abilities in public.

Because of their Superhuman Abilities and thus their subsequent threat to both Society and Political Authority, SupraNormals are often either used or hunted by Shady Corporate Entities, The United States Government, or Higher Political and Corporate Powers for variety of Nefarious Purposes.

SupraNormals are considered to be a Plague by many and despite The Enlightening Nature of Genetic Research, Many esteemed Scientists subscribe to this warped ideology, choosing to look at The SupraNormal Phenomenon through the lens of Pathology instead of Biology. Once referring to this phenomenon as Idiopathic Adolescent Acute Neurodegeneration or IAAN for short (also known as Everhart's Disease, named after its first fatal victim). Many SupraNormals especially those deemed "Mutants" often die from complications caused by their condition or as a direct result of Disadvantageous Mutation(s). As a result, Many regard SupraNormals as carriers of a Fatal Disease.

Sadly, This Disease most commonly affects children between the ages of 8 and 18. Over 35% of the US's Child Population or an estimated 22.9 Million Adolescents died from this disease when it was first discovered and began manifesting en masse in a three year period. Of the 65% that survived IAAN, 6% developed powers and most wound up either dying or were hunted down and killed before reaching adulthood in the so-called "Mutant Purge," with very few managing to survive to have children of their own. Most of the time a person's status as a SupraNormal is impossible to detect until sometime after their birth, usually around their early to mid-teenage years. The children generally show no symptoms until the onset of puberty, upon which the children either Died or Developed Abilities or Physical "Abnormalities" of some sort.

It wasn't until decades later that Scientists were able to find a discernible pattern in The Gene Code Common to Nearly All SupraNormals and they found that this unusual Genetic Disposition endowed Those Individuals possessing it with not only The Potential to Develop Incredible Physical and Mental Abilities Beyond The Norm for Baseline Humanity but was often paired with a Unique Neurocognitive Aberration within The Brain's Frontal and Cerebral Cortex in nearly 70% of reported cases (though many claim the number is much lower) which they claim interferes with a SupraNormal's Ability to Distinguish Right from Wrong which is all the evidence The Military and Civilian Authorities needed to detain and/or execute any SupraNormal they feel is a threat to the rest of The Population.

Thanks to the hard work of a few enlightened individuals, Mankind's view of SupraNormals is slowly beginning to change but it isn't easy and not without its costs.
