Mina Morgan

Mina groaned painfully as the bright hospital lights dragged her out of the black depths of unconsciousness. Her head was pounding as she opened her eyes, vaguely drinking in the sights of the sparsely furnished hospital room. The last thing she remembered was driving home from her store when a car ran a red light and turned her moped into a loosely connected set of scrap parts.

She was still a bit hazy on the whole ordeal, though she did remember the feeling of being airborne before darkness claimed her. That was probably the reason why her whole body wasn't in a cast, she noted as she tiredly raised a pale arm to check for damage. She must have been launched from the wreck, and shed enough speed while in the air to survive. Lucky break there, at least, although from the way her brain was throbbing, she must've hit the ground head-first. Thank god she had a helmet on.

"Glad to see you're finally awake!" A cheerful voice cut through the fog as a nurse stepped into the room. Mina's mind was still booting up, but she did have the brainpower to register how cute the woman was. Tall, redhead, smallish breasts but a pleasant overall body shape. She realized she was staring and shook herself out of her reverie.

"I-I guess I am," Mina managed to croak out through a horribly dry mouth, feeling a flush begin to creep up her cheeks. The nurse noticed her predicament and produced a bottle of water from somewhere, which Mina chugged down greedily as the woman explained her case.

It was pretty much what she expected. She was t-boned, got catapulted over the handlebars and hit her head on a rock cairn on the side of the road, someone called an ambulance, yada yada. Hearing that she had been in a coma for a week certainly made her wince. But there was a major detail that Mina wasn't too happy to hear about.

"Wait, that fucker drove off after running me over!?" she snarled, causing the nurse to wave her hands in a conciliatory gesture. "The person that called the ambulance saw the type of car they drove and the police are looking for them. I'm sure that they'll find them," she asserted. "In the meantime we're going to run some tests, and then hopefully send you on your way!"

Fortunately, no more damage seemed to be forthcoming, and even the migraine seemed to be receding. But her run of bad luck decided to give her one more kick to the balls before she was allowed to leave.

"You're joking," Mina stated flatly as she stared at the bill. The involuntary stay at the hospital cost more than what she had in savings. "I get run over and I get bankrupted for it?"

The nurse had the decency to pretend to look embarrassed, but Mina saw her roll her eyes as she turned to leave. "When they find the guilty party, you'll be able to hand the charges over to them, and probably sue for pain and suffering and lost wages. Unfortunately, until then, your insurance only covered so much."

"Great. Just great! Can't get a fucking break!" Mina exclaimed. She clapped her hands together and said in a mock-cheerful tone, "Just fuck me, right?"
