The Assignment

Tom knocked on the door to the office with the name of his chief in gold letters. Harry Dean, Chief Detectives. He entered the cramped pffice and quickly found a seat.

"There you are Tom," Harry said. "I have an assignmet for you that's right down your alley."

There was a certain smugness in the way Harry spoke and to Tom this meant trouble or worse.

"Really, what kind of assignment?" Tom said as he took his seat in front of Harry's desk.

"You know Tom," Harry said. "You would not be in this mess if you hadn't gotten out of control on your last assignment. You took advantage of Janet's weak moment."

"That's bullshit!" Tom growled.

"Well. you lost your wife and Janet lost her husband because of it."

Tom shrugged his shoulders as if to say that all that was old news. "Everyone knew that sex was a possiblity when we went into that assignment."

"Where is Janet, I thought she would be joining us here in the office?" Harry said as he opened up a candy bar and popped it into his mouth.

"In the ladies room," Tom said sarcatically. "We just had a little love fest on my desk before I came in here."

Tom was well aware that he should not have said what he did but he didn't feel all that interested in being nice.

"If you are through with the BS lets get down to business."

At that moment Janet entered the office with a big smile on her face saying to Tom that he should remind her to pick out new panties since the ones she wore earlier were kind of on the damp side.
