Chapter 3

Should you turn her on now, or read the instructions first?
Check the manual
Realizing that the lab guys probably packed Hannah's manual for a reason, you pluck it out of her hands, walk over to the sofa, and begin reading. Clearly, this has not gone through Marketing yet; there are no colorful pictures, no translations into German, Spanish or Japanese, and the text is plain, 12-pt stuff.
After fifteen minutes of reading, you know a few things about Hannah's vital systems. She runs off of a power cell which requires nightly charging, and while she can ingest food, it basically just goes out the back later, so you don't need to feed her.
There's some information on her hard drive, where her dataports are located, and technical details like that.
It mentions that you can customize her appearance somewhat, increasing breast size or changing her eye and hair color, and that you can order additional parts from the company website.
Then you notice something interesting. Apparently, Hannah features a remote control pad, which should be included in the packaging. You walk back to the box and, sure enough, there's a thin, 5x6 touch screen device in a small plastic bag, taped to the inside of the box.
You flip the pad's on switch, and the Venus Robotics logo appears, followed by a screen with two large buttons. One is red, with an on/off icon, and says Power. The other is yellow, and says Options.
Press a button.
