The awakening

You wake up. You open the windows to the backyard. The Gras is still wet from the storm. You head downstairs. Your father left you a note. He and his team are close to a discovery about some strange radio signals from space, so he already left for work.

Lilly is watching a cartoon on TV.

"Lilly it's like eight in the morning, why are you up so early? And why are already watching TV? Where is Hannah?"

"I couldn't sleep. Hannah did not come home yesterday."

"How do you know?" you liked down to her. Her eyes are red. Did she cry?

"I was up all night", she admitted.

"You were up allnight watching TV!?"

You almost shouted at her. You turned of the TV.

"Your eyes are all squares already, now go up to your room and get some sleep!"

Lilly runs upstairs.

"Wait", you stop her "what do you mean Hannah didn't come home?"

"I followed her into the forrest."

You now notice how dirty her PJs are.

"She was talking to some men and then they disappeared."

"What do you mean disappeared?"

"They were gone"

You take a moment to think. Then you get your little sister clean and bring her to bed.

Then you head to the institute where your father works. You have a visitor's pass and can easily get to your father in no-time.

"Good morning dad"

"Hey, big boy. What's up? Why are you here?"

"Hannah didn't come home yesterday. That's what Lilly told me at least. Is she here?"

Everyone in your family is a scientist. Well everyone except you and Lilly. Your mother was a physicist until she died in a car crash. Your father and sister both work on the science of space. Mainly on radiation that might indicate life on another planet. Your the only one that's not gifted the way everyone else in your family is. Even Lilly is smarter than most of the other children in her age.

"No, I thought she is asleep. I didn't want to wake her up." He frowns. "She's probably alright. Now look at this."

He showes you a chart on a screen with a line that goes up steadily and then drops suddenly.

"Over the last weeks we received a high amount of radio signals. That was until yesterday. It dropped to a zero!"

He looks absolutely excited. But the look on his face changes as he looks into your worried face. Both of you made a link between this drop of radiation, the disappearance of Hannah and the big light everyone in your area must have seen.

You storm to your car and throw your Dad's bike onto the roof. You hurry home and check on Lilly. She's still asleep, so you head into the forrest behind your backyard. You search the area until you find a clearing. A clearing with a circle of burned gras and sticks in the center. You look into each others face. Then your fathers phone starts ringing.

"Hello Thomas here. Aha... Aha... Okay I'll be right there." he puts his phone in his pocket and runs back to your house. You easily catch up.

"The radio signal is back.", he barely breathes, "something is talking to us"

You arrive back at the institute. Five people at once start talking to your father as the two of you enter your father's laboratory.

You only hear fragments and understand barely anything. Something about a speaking Egyptian.

Half an hour later your father breaks it down to you, while is colleagues keep working. Something is trying to contact us in an old Form of Egyptian. You instantly think of the conspiracy theories about aliens builting the pyramids, but quickly shove them out of your mind.

"They want us to send a representative. Would you go?"

That's snapped you out of your thoughts.

"But I am no way trained! What use could I be for you?"

"Listen, we only have a certain time window. And I need all my men here. If I would have another choice I would be happy to keep my only son with me. Ron, please."

You're still sorting your thoughts but you nod in agreement. Before you know it you are in a neoprene like suit with a helmet. Your placed in the yard of the institute. You here your father over radio.

" OK kid. We have done our best to instruct them where they could meet you. The should be here any minute. Can you see anythi-"

Your dad is interrupted by a giant lightning that strikes only a few yards in front of you. A creature walked out of the light and came to a stand in front of you.

Your helmet automatically translates what this creature is saying.

" Are you the one, your people send?", the thing spoke in Egyptian but you heard an robotic voice translate it for you.

You nod.

"Come with me"

It grabbed you and you saw another lightning above your head. You heard your father scream your name as you disappeared from earth's surface.
