Ask about the crew

Tortik seems like the friendliest Chullian, and might give you some information.

"How do things... work... around here?" you ask.

"Beats me, these days. It was a lot simpler when Kistel was captain. I mean, we all hated it, and hated Kistel, but it was simpler. These days I can't keep track of who's higher up than who."

"Kistel was captain?"

"Of course. Look at them; massive. Kistel could dominate anyone on board easily; that's why they had a crew of six. Do you know how hard it is to get a crew of more than three or four Chullians? But Kistel coordinated six! Very efficiently! Which was the problem, of course; everyone wanted to be part of this, but everyone hated their lives working for Kistel. But none of us could beat him, not even Maive."

"What happened?"

Tortik looks around and leans toward you to whisper conspirationally. "Maive had help."

"Help?"

"We all wanted Maive to be captain. So what we did was, we ambushed Kistel. Held them down while Maive fucked their brains out."

"A coup?"

"Wow, you have a word for it? We don't. It's not something we do. But Maive suggested it and it seemed like the best option, so we did it. Held Kistel down for about twelve hours. The rest of us also got a few turns fucking him. We had to; Maive needed to rest between sessions and we didn't want Kistel to think they deserved a rest, too. After that, Kistel's spirit was completely crushed. They became our dreg for nearly a whole month. Man, that was a good time. A ship this bit doesn't function well without a dreg, which is why it'll be so great to have you back tomorrow. People squabble, people have more resentment than they can fuck out of each other, there's always some crewmate on the bottom who hardly ever beats anyone and gets resentful, and then everyone feels bad because nobody wants their crewmate to feel bad. If there's a dreg, someone who's going to stay at the bottom no matter what, you don't have that problem. Nobody else has to feel abused or upset."

"The dreg probably does."

"Yeah, but who cares about that? Anyway, having a massive former captain who we were all pissed at and who'd do whatever anyone said and take any **** was great for crew cohesion, and everyone settled into the new system. But then Kistel had had enough, and took that chunk out of Krik's ear, and we didn't have a dreg any more and had to buy them. Which sucks, because bought dregs are never as good; they're either too strong or not resilient enough to withstand us, and they're rarely as sexy as Chullians. Well, until you; you're weak, unbelievably sexy, and have three holes to handle us. I'm gonna have so much fun fucking you senseless tomorrow. So Kistel worked their way back up the ranks pretty easily, but they've never challenged Maive again. And any time Maive challenges them, Kistel loses the fight, even though they should be stronger. I think that pisses Maive off to no end."

"Why?"

"Because Kistel could win. And sure, maybe they're afraid of another coup, but we all know the real reason: they want Maive as captain. Maive has better people skills and can keep the crew happy. And that means that Maive being captain is Kistel's choice, which means that Maive is still tenchically following Kistel's wishes, and can't do anything about it because Kistel won't fight. Hey, Kistel might have faked losing their confidence in the first place, knowing we needed to blow off some steam on them to keep the crew together. Either way, you being here is going to help crew cohesion a lot."
