Chapter 3

How is Dave and his family going to celebrate?
Going away party with friends and family at the Country restaurant and dance hall
Roger couldn't have been more happy for his son, and to show his appreciation, he called Mr. Garrity, the owner of Bronco Breakers, and arranged a going away party for Dave. Dave was pretty excited to go since he'd get to see some of his old friends and distant family and at the relatively new Bronco Breakers. It was basically the only place to hang out at nearby. Just one town over, the restaurant and dance hall served the surrounding populations which totaled just under 50k people and happened to be right off the interstate, so it attracted plenty of tourists as well. The best part is that since it wasn't a bar, you didn't have to be 21 and over to go in, and that meant that Dave and all of his friends could enjoy themselves there.
Here they were in the first week of August, just a couple weeks away from Dave moving and starting school, getting prepared for the party this evening. One thing that made Dave a bit nervous is that he knew that not only would Amanda, the closest thing he had to a girlfriend, be there, but so would Rick, the guy who graduated two years ago who ended up making a move on Amanda a day before you tried. Couldn't be that bad, could it? Amanda was a sweet girl and they'd only been dating for about a month, nothing big could have happened, right? That's what Dave tried to tell himself, anyway.
As people started to flow in, Dave was at the front of the room with his family greeting everyone as they all got sat around the dance floor. The smell of wood smoked pork filled the room. Amanda showed up separately from Rick. Dave was excited, of course, to see her. Amanda hugged him and looked him in the eye with a teary smile, "Oh, Dave, I'm so happy for you. It's sad that you're moving so far away, but you deserve a big brake after all the hard work that you've been putting in." She remarked, smelling of a fruity, flirty perfume and wearing a tight fitting dress. They exchanged words and memories for ten minutes or so when, at the last minute before the party was to start, Rick showed up.
Rick smiled, "Oh, you must be Davey, right? That's what this little mink called you when she was telling me about you. Good to meet you, man, you're a bit shorter than I had pictured." Dave felt a pang of jealousy as the guy who swept Amanda off her feet towered a foot over him, watching him manhandle her just made it that much worse for Dave. Amanda was clearly into this guy. Her cheeks were flush and she didn't protest Rick grabbing and groping her at a semi-public family event. At the same time though, Dave almost felt that at least Amanda was happy.
