Chapter 4 by TheSecretlyUnlikelyDuck TheSecretlyUnlikelyDuck

What does Lina do next?

She hears something and manages to find a passageway.

Lina shuffles through the dark, forbidding stone room, pausing at the mouth of a side passageway. As though guided by instinct, the intellectual librarian pauses to silently listen. She hears a deep, animalistic grunting from the dark void of the huge chamber, causing her to flee as quickly and quietly as she can by ducking down the nearby side passage. She has no time to think, but her instincts tell her to stay quiet and run from the sound.

The stone passage narrows and leads downwards, becoming little more than a hallway. Along one wall a hole opens into a narrow natural cave. Stalagmites and staglagtites surround the entrance, and the sound of flowing water echos out from inside. That's right! Lina recalls books telling of an underground river which met up with the Illyen south of the city. Maybe there's someway out through the cave, but then again she realises she might end up drowned in some flooded cave. Or worse.

The hall is that continues forward and down is narrow and dirty, covered in cobwebs and dust. It's obvious no one has been this way in the recent past. Despite this, it's at least an elf-made path and that might make it safer. Lina pauses for a brief moment to consider which direction to go.

Go down the stone hallway or into the cave?
