Chapter 5

Which Creature Finds You? Panther, Wolf or Something Else?

Wolf

The two of you spend a few minutes just explaining what you'd been through. Turns out that he'd been walking through the woods when a red rubber panther darted out from the brush and tried to run him down. He did manage to get away, and of course, that's where you come in.

"So, what's the-"

Before you can finish your sentence, the wolf pounces between the two of you, throwing both of you away. It quickly turns on you, looking over you intently, its teeth glistening with its "skin" in the pale light of the moon. You start crawling back until you hit a car, blocking off any means of escape and leaving the wolf only a few feet away from sealing your fate.

"THE OIL!" Steve shouts, pointing to a small puddle of oil that's dripped from the car behind you. Bit of an odd time to be thinking about faulty automotive, you think, but Steve just keeps gesturing towards that puddle. "GO TO THE OIL!"

Given that you have no real alternative, you do as he says and start crawling towards the oil puddle as quickly as you can. The wolf reaches out a clawed hand, grasping at your ankle, but you deliver a swift kick to his face and he loses his grip, allowing you to make it the rest of the way.

"NOW WHAT?"

"SPLASH HIM!"

You're once again puzzled by why, exactly, you should follow his directions, but once again you aren't left with much choice, so you stick both of your hands into the surprisingly deep slick of oil and throw it right into the werewolf's face. He recoils instantly and grasps his muzzle as it dissolves, dripping into a pile of purple goop. Whimpering, it beats a hasty retreat.

You look at Steve quizzically. "How did you know?" He gives you a cocky smile.

"Science project from back in high school. I was testing out a few things to see how they reacted with each other, and one of the combinations was rubber and oil. Really just luck, I guess, but I didn't expect it to work that well..."

"Don't worry about it," you reassure him. After all, you've got bigger things to worry about.

Is There Anything To Worry About?
