Ashley lifts the coin

Ashley decided to ignore Phoenix, and concentrated on the coin. After a second, she could feel the power rise up in her mind, and flow out. The coin slowly lifted, and spun in the air. Ashley beamed with pride, and grinned at Jean, causing the coin to fall back onto the table as she lost concentration.

"Well done," Jean thought at her, nodding, "At the institute, you'll be able to learn to control this new power, if you decide to come."

"Of course I will!" Ashley said, "I might even be able to make these psychic links myself now, in which case I don't need to worry about talking!" She'd have another power she could train, and nobody would have to be worried about her if she just didn't talk. Of course, being with other mutants who would actually understand her... either way, it would be worth it.

"Perfect! I'll arrange things, and talk to your parents. Have you told them about your ability?"

"No. Please don't tell them."

"I understand. They'll think you've just been accepted into college."

"Thank you Jean." Ashley hugged her, "This is the best thing that ever happened to me."

"Many students feel the same way."

Soon, Ashley was stepping out of the airport with her bags. Jean had explained to her and her parents that almost everything would be provided by the school, but she still had a few large bags of things. She had been surprised at how easy it was to convince her parents, but it turned out that while the Xavier Institute's recruitment policy was strange, the school actually seemed relatively legitimate, although her mother probably was just happy that she had gotten into any college at all.

She looked around, and saw someone holding a sign with her name on it, and headed over.
