Carmilla gives her a concerned look. "Between us... Elizabeth made Charlotte, not you. And Elizabeth doesn't trust you. It's not unwise for Charlotte to keep her distance" Carmilla explains.

"But you don't avoid me" Jessica retorts.

"I don't have anything to prove. I've been with Elizabeth for centuries. Charlotte is still young" Carmilla says, resting a hand on Jessica's leg. "For what it's worth: I'm proud of you and Linda. The expression on Elizabeth's face suddenly turns dead serious, all the mirthfulness turned off. Elizabeth watches Jessica intently, evaluating her. Jessica suppresses the urge to lunge at Charlotte and claw at her throat. She maintains her outer calm, keeping her expression neutral.

Elizabeth turns to Diana. "This one tastes exquisite, tell me more about the diet you have her on?" Elizabeth says, and the tension is broken. The feeding resumes: the vampiresses laugh, the human captives struggle against their bindings, and Jessica silently stews.
