John is unprepared

Jenny grinned at John. "Hey, stupid!" she adressed John whispering. "Another day just drinking and not preparing for school? You're so dumb, stupid!"

John shot her an angry glare. "Don't call me stupid, you... you..." John searched for a devastating swearword, but couldn't remember anything he hadn't called her without effect. "You ... Xotzil!" That was at least innovativ. He expected her to laugh at him as usual, but was surprised to see her eyes go blank. She didn't move at all.

John quickly glanced at Mr. Woodster, but he was busy arguing with a classmate about her paper and the day they should have been ready. He glanced back at Jenny, who hadn't moved. It was scary.

"Look at Mr. Woodster, or he'll notice soon!" he whispered urgently. He didn't like Jenny, but Woodster seeing her watching him would get him intro trouble again for sure. To his astonishment Jenny reacted promptly. And without comment. She now watched every little move of Woodster like her life depended on it. It was getting more strange by the minute.

Time passed and the lesson droned on. Still Jenny's eyes hadn't left Woodster, who was now writing something on the chalkboard. "Jenny? What do you do? Do you want to provoke me?" John whispered to her. "I watch Mr. Woodster. Normally yes, but not at the moment."

John pondered on that answer for a moment himself. That was totally out of character for Jenny. Was it a game? The answer was the truth, he thought...
