You confront Athena.

The bell rings, and you step forward into the center of the ring to face Athena. She doesn’t waste any time coming to you in turn, athletic body tensing as she strides across the ring.

“And we’re right down to business on this one,” the announcer observes as she closes in on you.

You quickly rack your brains to come up with a strategy to use against her, but you’re out of time. Maybe if you’d worked one out beforehand you might have come up with one that could help you.

One corner of Athena’s mouth twitches into the slightest of smirks, the only break from her stoic expression you can see as she raises her arms for what looks like a lockup. You move to meet her—

—and in a blur of motion, she drops the feint and slams her fist into your gut.

“Your first mistake,” she taunts. “Somehow, I doubt it will be your last.”

You double over, coughing as the wind is knocked out of you, and Athena seizes the advantage. Spinning around gracefully on one leg, she raises the other up with perfect timing to smash across your face in a punishing spinning kick. Stars erupt in front of your eyes as you collapse to the mat.

You can’t really hear the announcer’s next words over the ringing in your ear, but you can see Aphrodite cheering in the corner—what a pretty smile, you think inanely—and feel Athena turning you over to lay you on your belly.

Wait, what? She can’t pin you down this way, your shoulders have to be against the mat. So that means...

Oh, fuck.

Athena drops down to sit on your back and grabs you under the chin, wrenching your spine into an excruciating Camel Clutch. A pained yell bursts from your lips as she pours on the pain, and you hear her call out, “Are you ready to submit? There’s no shame in admitting the superiority of a goddess.”

Barely a minute into the match, and she’s already got you right where she wants you.
