Up the hill

“I’ll cover the hills just to be sure. The rest of you split between the foot prints and double checking the person that was thrown from the blimp.”

“I’ll come with you.” The guard I had saved earlier walks up and stands next to me. ”That leaves 3 each to check the other 2 locations.”

They all nod and break up and follow their respective trails while the two of us head up into the hills.

“This your first quest?” He asks me as we walk.

“First real one I suppose.” I reply and we make small talk as we climb.

He tells me about how he tried to be a solo adventurer like me, but was hoping to get some more experience fighting first before going on his own.

“Well this ought to be a pretty good proving grounds for the both of us.” I say.

“From what I’ve seen so far you’re already incredible. You saved my life afterall.” He says and I admittedly blush a little.

After a little bit we spot a cave. we draw our weapons and slowly approach the entrance.

“Well this doesn’t seem ominous at all.” He says as we step inside.

The cave splits into two paths. The left path heads up and the right heads down.

“Are we splitting up?” He asks.

“I don’t like the idea, but if they’re in here they could slip by us.” I say.

“And if we split up and they get the drop one of us is in trouble.” He counters.

It was a tough choice. I was fairly confident I could handle myself as most of my mana had recovered, but I was worried about him.
