Chapter 141 by brevdravis brevdravis

Coffee and some quick shopping.

Yeah, that sounds great!

"Thanks, Pal... uh... lass. " I checked the buddy talk. For a second I had forgotten who I was hiking with.

"Ok, Uhm... that was... Ok." Helen shrugged her shoulders, pumping the black dispenser. She picked up two sugar packets and began fanning them rapidly. "You want any sugar?"

"Yeah, sorry, just out of it. Charlotte wanted some flour too." I held up my basket to Helen's nod of approval. A few shelves only in this store, but more necessities than I would have expected for an out of the way little market.

"You know what I feel like? Cinnamon rolls." Helen laughed. "Haven't had that in... well, a while, and it sounds really good."

"Yeah that does sound good. " I glanced around the shelves and noticed a small rack with a few basic spices on it. On the end, in a red bottle, were a couple of cinnamon sticks. "I think we've got salt at the cabin, right?"

"Doesn't hurt to stock up." Helen commented, grabbing a small grinder. "Worst case scenario, it goes in my spice rack at home."

"You cook?" I asked.

"Hell yeah. But I totally prefer campfire cooking." Helen chuckled. "We totally should have done smores at some point, but that damn rain just blew that idea to hell."

It was only a moment more to make our final purchases, and step back out into the foggy street.

"This is really. Really thick. " Helen remarked. "So, I... Wow... So, two, huh? "

"Two what?" I asked, trying to make out what she was saying. I held the grocery bag in one hand, while Helen took the milk container and her bow case.

"Second trip in the fog, I mean." Helen amended hastily. "You... I think you need to lead the way on this."

"Ok, so... back up the road to our turn off?"

"You mean the Crossroads... Yeah... " Helen nodded.

Another walk in the fog.
