Keep Going

I keep going trying to fill my own purse up more before I take another break I only have a few more hours of daylight and this Marketplace will be closed.

Out of the corner of my eye I see a guard slowly approaching me. I actively try to avoid him by turning into an alley and venture deeper into it, turning two more corners where I am alone. I smile a bit, looking behind. He hasn't followed me. Then when I turn forward, the man is right in front of me. I'm stunned that this guard had the wits to corner me so easily.

"Hold it Miss."

I stop and let him approach. If he reports me to the authority, I'm screwed. The city of Aries takes thievery very seriously often times executing thieves for their crimes.

"Yes? Can I help you?" I ask innocently.

He eyes me up and down. He doesn't look convinced at all of my innocence. "I've been observing you for the past few minutes. You've been quite busy."

I look down. I don't usually get caught red-handed. He holds his hands out.

"Hand it over," he orders.

I slowly take the purses I've stolen and put it in his palm.

He weights it and looks down at me. "I'm gonna have to take you in."

I tense up. This is what I wanted to avoid at all cost.
