Chapter 6 by Ben Rosewood Ben Rosewood

Should it?

No, he already has a date

Spencer took a step back from Karen. "No, I think I should just go."

Karen looked to the floor as Spencer made his escape. As much as Spencer found Karen attractive, he already had a date set up with an intelligent, attractive woman. During the drive home, Spencer tried to make up his mind on a place to take Danielle. He'd also have to make arrangements for Amy. She was about old enough to take care of herself, but Spencer didn't want any doubt in his mind.

Once home, Spencer made a sandwich for his delayed lunch before looking up places that served much better food. Spencer took Danielle as a woman who had expensive taste. Then again, Calabresi was the most obvious place to take her, and he felt strongly about how underrated Thuong Thien was. It might be a bit out of the way, but he has confidence that the food will impress anyone.

Before heading over to watch Amy's trials, Spencer decides to call Danielle. She answers the phone "Hello?"

"It's Spencer."

"Oh hey. So you got a place in mind?"

"Ever been to Thuong Thien?"

"The Vietnamese place? No I haven't, but I'd love to try it."

"Perfect, I'll book us in for 7?"

"Sounds great."

"Perfect. See you then."

"Bye."

With the call done, Spencer drove to the school to watch Amy from the sidelines. There were a few of the moms there, including Karen. They exchange an obligatory wave before turning their attention to the try-outs, with no one the wiser about what had happened between them.

Once the try-outs were over, Amy headed over to her father.

"You did great out there."

"Thanks Dad."

"So what position will you be playing?"

"Third base."

"Awesome. Listen, I've got a meeting with an old friend from college tomorrow night, so you'll be home alone."

"Could I stay at Kimberley's house?"

"Uh, is that okay with her parents?"

"It should be."

"Well, that works for me too."

That was one less thing for Spencer to worry about. Now the only thing running through his mind is his first date in over a decade. Despite the six years that had passed since Kirstin's ****, he still felt a pang of guilt for seeing another woman. No matter what he did, he knew he would always miss her, and that he would always love her.

What's next?

More fun
