Chapter 3
by hemelwijs
Which character do you choose?
Celine, beginning adventurer. (Skills allocation and AP use tutorial)
After the white flash of the loading screen clears I find myself standing in a forest clearing. I am alone, but in front of me is a young female wearing skin-tight leather armour, and holding a sharp looking short sword. A screen pops up in front of me.
Welcome to the skills tutorial, here you will learn how to use the AP you have earned in previous playthroughs to customize you character. First of open the skills menu by saying "skills".
I do as instructed and a new screen appears. This one has five tabs:
Skills of might
Skills of magic
Skills of the world
Skills of the flesh
Feats, perks, and traits.
Please navigate to the "might" tab.
When I do a series of icons fill the screen each indicating a skill. Next to each icon is a the number zero.
In order to defeat this bandit we require two skills: leather armour, and short weapons. To learn a skill, simply select it, and confirm that you wish to spent the nescesary AP. Please spent some of the points you earned from the previous tutorial to learn these skills.
I press the blinking icon of a leather vest and watch as the icon enlarges and a discription appears.
Leather armour: the skills necessary to properly use and maintain armours made primarily of leathers. In addition, it allows you to identify weakness in your enemy's armour if they are leather as well. Higher levels allow better armours to be equiped.
Underneath the discription is the question if I whould like to learn this skill, it will cost five AP. I press "yes" and my mind suddenly fills with some basic knowledge of leather armours. Looking at the bandit in front of me, I start to notice things about her armour I failed to see before: pieces that are fastened incorrectly, gaps and tears, and various other things I can use in my fight.
I return my attention to the skills screen and sellect the short weapons icon. Again a discription appears.
The short weapons skill allows you to use short, one-handed weapons. Daggers, clubs, short swords, and hand axes all fall into this category. Spending points in this skill will give you a better understanding of how to wield them in combat, and how to keep them in peak condition. Raising this skill far enough might open up the option to specialise in a specific type. Fighting styles and more damage are things you can expect with this skill.
Again I press the "yes" button, paying another five AP. Like with the armour skill a sudden rush of knowledge fills my mind, and I sheepishly realise that I held my own short-sword in the most amateuristic way possible.I adjust my grip and change my footing to increas my stability. When I again look at my female opponent I realise that she has her sword in the same grip I had before I learned the skill, and I now know that a simple strike at the right place will disarm her.
Now that you are armed with the skills to both defend yourself, and overcome your enemy, it is time to use what you learned.
The moment I finished reading the message the screen disapeared and the female bandit in front of me screamed as she lunged at me with her sword.
What do you do?
