Chapter 4

Tell her who the Chief Engineer is?
Not yet.
It's better not to tell her right away. She's incredibly angry and you were never one for direct confrontation. Instead you decide to pretend that you're one with your fellow engineers and not their boss. Some of them were even higher ranks than you. It's a good thing that not all civilians are aware of the small difference in your uniform that separated you as a senior officer.
"Alright, everyone is here and accounted for," announced the pilot of the shuttle, "all aboard to the Massachusetts."
Dr. Lo was the first to walk on. She almost had to push another officer aside, but he knew better than to mess with our "first class" passenger. Engineers are usually a rowdy bunch even on duty. On a normal day, you'd hear a variety of conversations ranging from work to the latest sports game and even discussions about someone's personal side project, but today, we were dead quiet. Dr. Lo's presence frightened everyone.
She sat in her seat with an elegance you'd never see in Astrofleet. She was so pristine and so high class compared us "lower beings." Everyone else was filled with energy. Their heads on a swivel looking out the front viewscreen to catch their first glimpse of the Massachusetts and looking back to a friend to continue a hushed conversation. Meanwhile Dr. Lo looked like a statue displaying her perfect posture with a facade of anger that was no doubt still directed at you.
Upon breaking past another layer of atmosphere, you could see her. The Massachusetts was still at dry dock and she dwarfed every other ship in the fleet in size, fire power, and comfort. She wasn't a vessel for war, but you never know who you might meet while exploring the unknown. She is beautiful.
